Do you have to go to the extreme? I've seen literally HUNDREDS of burglaries where the bad guy made off with some of the property, and came back for seconds, or, did a TON of destruction while in the home because of one reason or another.

There is always the possibility of retaliation by the offender, either at the time of the original offense or later.

But by setting a booby trap, you are greatly risking pissing the offender off.

But, don't listen to me, I only have almost 20 years of experience and know nothing about this stuff.
You're the one bringing up the extreme. I'm saying that if they break in and get a face full of pepper spray, odds are, they'll move to an easier target. You're saying if I defend my home odds are they'll come back and destroy the place. That's kind of like saying that cops shouldn't pull over anyone because there's a chance they'll get shot. Does it happen? yes. Does it happen often? No. Does that mean that someone shouldn't protect their homes? Hell no.

And your time as a cop in a city does nothing to address the issue of residences like mine. As I stated earlier, the county police and I disagree that I'm even in the county and their response time in the best of times out here runs excess of 1/2 an hour. I have a regular alarm and was looking at the burglar bomb as an addition.

If you have a determined bad guy, he could break in, set off the spray, and come back when the contaminant subsides knowing there is no alarm and the police were not notified. You also risk pissing off the offender and they end up causing more damage because of your booby trap.

How do I get back in after an incident?
The effected area can be ventilated in less than an hour, but even without airing out, the area will be habitable in three to four hours.

    Is there a residue?
Technically, yes. But, it is so minor as to be undetectable.

    Is the residue toxic?
No. The active ingredient is food grade pepper extract.

    Is any cleanup required?
No. But, if you feel inclined to do something, normal household cleaning procedures such as vacuuming, damp mopping, and damp dusting will work nicely. Avoid sweeping for awhile.

TC, you're right, I didn't do any follow up after the inital post and that is bad form on my side. The love of a good debate kept it going and that combined with Christmas meant I was interested in a little poke and family time than research which is VERY bad form on my part. AGain, I'm sorry.

    HOOOOLY HELL! Quoted for posterity.

As far as not being here 5 years. You're going to split hairs over 2 months? Really? 07-12 is 5 years. You joined in Feb of 07, so we're 2 months shy of your 5th anniversary on the boards.

Instead of seeing it as a bit of fucking with you, you saw it as addressing you as a male. Apologies for that)

    Accepted.

    2. My agenda to prove every move by law enforcement, government and corporations is a violation of the 10th? Only when they are actually violating one of the amendments and as written, the author was saying the officers were violating several.

To break it down, I said that you think every move is some sort of a violation of the first 10 Amendments. That's not saying that every move is a violation of every amendment. I'm saying that you think that any single move made by a politician, law enforcement, or large corporation is some sort of violation against one or more of the first 10 Amendments. It's a blanket statement. Does that clarify it for you?

You've had many, many points and debates in which I agree with your stance, and I'm as outraged as you. I have written my fair share of letters, I've spoken at a municipal level, and I push back and question many things. I also research excessively, as I did in this situation by pulling up the terms and conditions of the gas company's service contract.

    3. Fear mongering? Not even close. And I do make a difference as I'm not limited to only this here nifty box.

    4. And I didn't turn a blind eye to other sources, that was the source I saw, I posted it and went to enjoy family time. I do pop in to argue the original article and when I'm shown additional details, I admit when I'm wrong. If you'll notice I said I was basing the thread off the initial report which made no mention of crews.

But the original article, posted by you, said "Crews." You've also continued to push back on the subject saying, "That's not what the original article said. It said that police and locksmiths are entering to turn it off. It says nothing about crews." In this case, it's really hard to see where you'll admit that you're wrong, when you're telling everyone else they're wrong and asking for an apology. The video that I posted from the local news crews shows all five factors: Police, Locksmith, Technician, absent homeowner, and an indoor meter.

    5. You've made a lot of wrong assumptions about me, have decided I'm anti government/police/corporations and are pretty sure that I'm not actually doing something to make a difference.

Those that know me here know what I do to make a difference but that's okay. Evidently you're a chick and I won't hold this emotional attack against you. It happens.
And the obligatory, "You're a female and being emotional" attack because you can't admit that you're wrong? Nice. The critique is that if you took a little more care in your debates and research, you can be a much more effective spokesman for your causes. I don't negate that you've spoken on Capitol Hill. I don't negate that you are a champion for the rights that our forefathers set forth and dedicated their lives to. I don't negate the fact that you are a champion for the active and veteran military personnel who have risked life and limb to let me sit here and freely express my opinions. Take it to heart when I say that you've sacrificed more for this Country than I ever could. All that I'm saying is if you would take that passion ONE STEP FURTHER and collect your information a little more objectively, your audience wouldn't be restricted to people that already agree with you.

We're right, you're wrong. End of story, no matter how many paragraphs you write trying to obscure it. And her assessment of your state of mind is dead on. I've got 5 years of reading these types of bullshit posts from you to know it. That isn't an assumption. It's a FACT. Not that you can differentiate the two.
