I find it funny that all the people that win big lawsuits, rarely ever see a dime of the money. Nice System...

No where did I say they shouldnt have opened fire, I fail to see why unloading a entire magizine is needed. They need to spend more time at the gun range if they are lacking that much confidence in their shooting abilities.

So tell me Matt, if someone were to pull out a finger pistol at you, you would unload an entire magazine on them? Even if he was saying "pow pow pow"?
Are you fucking serious? The first cop around the car stops advancing (0:43) because the guy has his arms outstretched at the cop like he has a weapon. The cop THEN draws his pistol. It's clear they thought he had a weapon. He acted like he had a weapon. It was dark. Guess who is about to get lit the fuck up?

Do you think people just fall over after they get shot? Until he collapses he's going to be shot at because they have no way of knowing whether he's been hit. It took 17 seconds from the time the first cop draws to the time he collapses. 120 shots fired seems pretty tame over 17 seconds. Especially from a whole gaggle of pissed off cops.

    How about this...

Capacity of a G17 (typical 9mm service pistol) is 17+1.
10-12 officers involved in the shooting.
    120 rounds of ammunition deployed.

Therefore, if you take the low end of 10 officers, they averaged 12 rounds per man. This is 2/3rds of ammunition available in a service pistol. Averages would dictate that not one officer "emptied his magazine" into the perpetrator. If all officers were drawn on the perp, I would imagine that all 120 rounds could have been fired in less than 5 seconds.

Think about that... because there are nearly a dozen weapons trained on the target, it only takes 4-5 seconds to put 120 rounds down range.

When you get shot, unlike what the movies like to portray, you don't fall down and die. It takes a hit to the central nervous system to incapacitate... stuff like head/spine shots. You could have your heart torn out of your chest and you can function for 20-30 seconds, your brain still has oxygen. The perp can get shot 2,000 times through the legs, arms, gut, neck etc and still be moving. 5 seconds is a LONG time when it comes to pulling a trigger in defense, but a very very short time for someone getting shot to drop to the ground dead.

If you want a great example of that, look up the video of the guy the cops shot outside that burger joint. The officers discharged 10-12 rounds at damn near point blank range before he hit the pavement, and he still bled to death minutes later... in handcuffs. You can watch him writhing around on the ground, still coherent and lucid. He ate 8 rounds of 40cal. In short, the guy could have still accessed a weapon and used it after being plugged 8 times.

There is only one point to stop pulling the trigger, and that's when the perp stops moving. If you want to call the police and say you'll shoot them if they approach you, get out of a car at night and assume a Weaver stance when the officers are already drawn on you... you're going to get what you're asking for.

I still think it's suicide by cop. The perp's family should be sued for the mental anguish the officers are suffering from for having to shoot the kid.

Yes. If you turn in a way that a cop thinks you're taking a 'shooting stance' unarmed, you get 120 rounds pumped into you with several in the back for good measure.

I could be wrong, and i'm sure Matt will pipe up if so, but i'm pretty certain that most cops are trained to empty the mag and reload, not put 1-2 rounds down range.

I'm not saying shooting the kid was wrong, but 120 times? Come on..
Shoot to stop. Some end up wounded, some end up dead.

Take a look at about 1:49. There are at least 10 officers on scene.
