The simple and honest fact is that if this texting while driving death statistic keeps rising, there will be a law or strict regulations. There is not a thing you can do.
Actually, you err on the side of freedom because that is the natural state of man. You cannot enforce these laws, they turn into revenue generation. Proof? How many drunk drivers are on their 4th or 5th offense and paying fees and fines instead of prison? How many people speed because there's no way to ensure everyone follows the law?

And I've been to Europe, I don't fit in at all. Call it a streak of Libertarianism and individual freedom AND RESPONSIBILITY.

These people need to learn how to multitask better. I can text and drive just fine. One eye on the road, one on the phone...

Maybe logic amazes you because you're not used to it?

Does that law stop anyone from doing it? What about eating and driving? Music and driving? Talking to passengers and driving? Would you like studies that show ALL of those result in casualties as well? What do you draw the line at?

Is drinking and driving legal? You just proved my point. Thanks.

Imagine if drinking and driving was legal. Don't you think casualties would increase?

If texting and driving was illegal, at least the rate of death would go down significantly.

All I stated is that there needs to be a mph lock on GPS phones for texting.

Not at all.. How are "condors" hitting you in the head when you are driving versus texting and driving even remotely similar? The logic of some of you guys never ceases to amaze me and one of the main reasons I don't post anymore. For the most part, this site has gone to shit and runs rampant with idiots.

I threw an idea out. Some will like it, some will not. I couldn't care less.

How do you figure? Do they not all result in casualties? Do you not have to wipe blood off the street on each one? Do you not have to notify families? What about drunk drivers? How has laws against that worked out? Do we have more or less drunks on the roads? Do you have 16 year old girls not drinking and killing people with their cars?

Again, how much of your liberty are you willing to give up?

Emotional plea versus freedom. If the 16 year old drives and texts and is in an accident, you try her as an adult and sentence her for a LONG, LONG time. Hell, you might as well arrest people for smoking in their cars as well because they COULD dump the butt out the window and start a wildfire that kills people. Or regulate cars to 20 mph because any higher and worse injuries could result from inattention.

    Lol ok pumpkin.

Will I feel better if it was due to a drunk driver? What about an 18 wheeler tire that causes a major accident? What if a flying condor hits them in the head when the top is down?

You can play all the what if and anecdotal BS you want but you trying to fix it by just "banning texting" is not the right answer.

Do you wear sunscreen every time you go outside?

And what of the other causes of crashes? Bad tires, bad wiper blades, eating in the car, the car itself? What are you going to do to address those? Lock the car down or remove it all together? And what of police who text or play on their laptops in the squad while doing 80 mph while weaving through traffic? Are you locking theirs too? How much of your freedom are you willing to give up for security?
