I worked in bars when I was in college and my first job was as a bar-back. I made somelike like $2.39 an hour, so a percentage the bartenders' tips was what paid my bills. It was a huge club in Lubbock with 8-15 bartenders, so I worked my ass off hauling cases of beer and bottles to each bar, washing glasses and then clearing up and restocking each bar after closing. As the article said, when someone stiffed the bartender, they were also stiffing me. Unless the bartender did something seriously wrong (rare), give them at least 10%, which is typically not too much at all. Trying to send a message to the bartender by not tipping just makes the situation worse.
