i love it how SAPD does it...we get vacation time for the better shape where in....in-service has are PT test which consist of sit-ups, push-ups,vertical jump, 1.5 mile run, and 300 m sprint.....max out all 5 events, you earn 40hr of bank time...so if the city wants to pay me 5 days off to be in shape works for me.......most officers do the pt test....earn 10hr, 20hr,30,40hr......its a great way to get use to stay in shape....not sure how other departments get there officers to stay in shape.....does make me sick when i see a fat fuck in uniform......like i tell um hope you got it in ya when you gotta fight for your life when some peckerwood gets the idea of going hands with ya cause your fat and outta shape...sorry ranting on.

You have to get out of the car and walk up to the violator at least twice
I weighed 205 when I got out of the academy in 1992. I weigh roughly 217 now. That's not to shabby.
The reason they let themselves go is because there is no physical requirement once you are in.
It all boils down to the $$$. If the city had a physical standard, they would have to have a workout facility, or pay for memberships. They would have to compensate the employee by either allowing them to work out on duty, or pay them comp or money to work out on overtime. Since no city wants to do that, it's easier (cheaper) to do nothing and just replace them with a rookie officer when the old head drops dead of a heart attack.

My local constable sets off the radar detector on a regular basis. He sports a solid black charger with limo tint and the lettering on the side of the car is almost a smoke gray. Very hard to see. Hidden lights, no crash bar. Haven't been pulled over by him in many-many years.
On another note, the police officers for our small town are some huge tubs o lard for the most part. I'm pretty sure a couple of them would be winded and wheezing just from the exertion needed to unfasten the seat belt, step from the vehicle, and waddle their fat asses to the car. They are younger than I am and I'm 30. One of the fat bastards wasn't allowed to drive a squad car because the Insurance policy wouldn't cover him. Forced the city to purchase a new Tahoe to tote his over sized self. Been cheaper to fire his ass and replace him with someone that could sit in the car and not run the wheel with their inverted belly button.

I of course thought he was trying to be funny, but he then gave me my license and insurance back and said "You don't have warrants or anything so have a nice day, and try to keep your speed down" and walked back to his car. I laughed all the way home, and then some.

I would love to get into a friendly foot pursuit with 50% of the cops in any given city. I'm sure some would run me down quickly, but you're right, and I notice it often. There are some big cops out there.

Sure, let him run so he can steal from someone else, and then they can post on a message board like this whining about effin' thieves.

Maybe that's why they're so quick to tase now. "I'm not chasing this fucker so lets make sure he doesn't run."
I watched part of an episode of cops the other day, and given the guy shouldn't have gotten out of his truck, but as soon as the stop was made the cop ran up to him screaming "taser", then said put your hands up, and while the guys hands were up he got tased. It was pretty damn funny honestly. Turns out the guy was in a truck that was reported stolen, but I switched off before the segment ended to find out if any more details were given.
