I haven't read the story yet, but I got caught out in a quarter-sized hailstorm once on my bike, no shelter around at ALL, just plowed fields, all I could do was lay on the tank and ride about two miles until I found a house. My shoulders, thighs and chest were covered in big red whelps, which all turned into bruises.

I got caught in one east of colo spgs. Broke two fingers in the same size storm as above. It was 10 minutes of pure agony
