My 93 4.0 5spd ranger would average 23-24 on the way to/from lubbock multiple times. It made great torque and was equipped with an 8.8 and some gears. It is the "Splash" edition. Lol

Wife keeps saying get a full-size with 4doors. With that kinda fuel consumption it be a weekend truck only lol. Waste if ya ask me. I just want a reg cab truck to just haul Shit if I need it and drive my Honda daily.

If I had it my way I'd buy a clean fox and trade my Honda for a 4 cylinder pickup and daily the pickup.

I saw a s10 blazer posted in the member rides that's dropped and that got me wanting one. But the nice ones want like 4 to 5 k.

Much rather have a safety net. I want a DD to make it easier to work on the Jeep and it be a little less stressful, but I want something with utility and better MPG as well.

My 94 Splash is reg cab and short bed. 2.3 and 5 speed. I have to TRY to get 20 mpg and I am meticulous about maintenance. It only has 85 k on it. I hoped it would get better when I bought it. I also had a 97 Nissan reg cab short bed with a 2.2 and 5 speed. It also would squeak out 19 or 20 mpg. They both could be outrun by a snail dragging an anchor.

I had an auto 3.0L back home and that thing made abysmal MPG and for a V6 was anemic. Averaged roughly 17mpg and couldn't get out of it's own way. My old 4cyl S10 did better with power but ended up with a cracked head or block, not sure which since we just got rid of it.
I use fueleconomy.gov. They have updated EPA ratings and user scores. The 5 speed in any truck is going to get way better. I sold a 97 B4000 5 speed not too long ago, was getting 20MPG with it and it was a fun little truck.

03 2.2L 5 spd here. I get 25mpg highway, 22 mixed. Don't get an auto if you look into these trucks. They are total turds. Auto and 4:10's was not a good a combo. The 5spd w/ 3.73's aren't bad in the "I need to get up to speed so I don't get ran over trying to merge onto the interstate" department

Use to have one of these, great truck and gas mileage. Had 273k when I sold it, family had it since new and never had one problem with it.

4.10's with the 4l isn't too bad. But it's a lifted jeep on 35's, you have to actively drive it.

Even with a stick in a small cab, you could eat a steak with a fork and knife and be good to drive. I can barely drink a redbull in the jeep without getting it on my shirt.

If he is driving more than 10 miles to work everyday, the stress factor of driving a jeep is HIGH. Mine has 4.88 gears, 4cyl, locked front and read, banks header/exhaust, intake. Mods probably give me 10bhp. Can't clear a hill without accelerating for 3 miles beforehand on the tollway. Leaving a gas station, the tires scream like I'm a 16 year old trying to look cool.

Driving a Jeep everyday sucks. I did it with my YJ for 4 years. Their really not worth a fuck beyond 4wl <5mph.
