I wish I hadn't attempted college the first time. I wish I would've just waited until now. I couldn't be bothered to attend class when I was 19, and now I'm consistently one of the highest performer in my classes. I guess I just needed to get hungry enough for it, and not just look at it as a default action. FWIW, after wanting to go to college for a lot of things, I chose an Accounting major, and so far I couldn't be happier. I'm sure I'll get a job when I get out. As far as whether or not the vast majority of kids graduating can get jobs or not? I don't care. I can't worry about them. I can only control myself.

Same here. Non trad, but graduated with honors, and had a job before graduating, as did 100% of my classmates.

Me, I thought about mechanical engineering, loved the math, science and drafting classes, just could get over having to take government, history, comp and lit, all the same bullshit classes I just took in high school. I went to work on diesels, made the move to working for the DOD as a mechanic and if everything works out this week, should move to bring an inspector. Being that I deploy overseas a lot with the DOD, I have done very well for myself even doing manual labor. I just can't see how college would have really helped me much.

The perfect argument for high schools offering tech/career classes instead of forcing everyone into the college route!

My degree was the best time/money I've ever spent. I paid for all but the last semester out of pocket while working part time. The ROI is well worth it, and honestly would be at 6-8 times the cost.

I also work with 2 non-degreed professionals that are both great and very competent. Unfortunately, if they were seeking work, I couldn't even interview the because they don't have 4y degrees.

While I agree that not every is a good fit for a degree, people should follow what they love/like/enjoy. I didn't really do this, as I could not make enough to live the way I wanted jet skiing, turning wrenches after hours, and managing a parts store.

I sure hope my kids get degrees.

My work hires kids straight out of college who can interview well but never work a job before. Their typical turnover rate is every 6 months, on nearly all of them. You mean I can't work 9-5 with weekends off and make six figures ohhh noooo I quit

, the kids who got straight a's in college and got scholar ships expecting to change the world just don't get working and go back to school again because that's all they know

Then the people who can't interview at all and have college degrees sit around with all the debt making $10 an hour

Meanwhile the guy busting his ass with 3 kids who trains these college kids get a $.035 raise per year and can't get promoted

Well, working from the bottom up is essentially gone now, too. There arent many places that will train you and let you work up the chain.

And that's why management is piss poor at best and nobody wants to work for a clueless dick who doesn't know the first thing about what he's talking about.

It isn't too hard to model out a DCF and get a feel regarding the value of higher education. Kids have certainly been hurt by the mindset the last few years that every kid needs to go to college - truth is they all don't. The education bubble will burst, there's no question the current trajectory is unsustainable.

The sad thing is that a lot of kids don't realize they'll still be stupid even after they graduate.
