Most accurate 2021 crime rates for Miami Gardens, FL. Your chance of being a victim of violent crime in Miami Gardens is 1 in 190 and property crime is 1 in 46. Compare Miami Gardens crime data to other cities, states, and neighborhoods in the U.S. on NeighborhoodScout.

And it has a lot of Haitian and Jamaican immigrants according to that site...Yeah, they're having fun

    Miami Gardens police department
Denzel Flowers remembers the first time he was stopped by the Miami Gardens Police Department. He said he was hanging out in a neighborhood park in the middle of the day when police approached him. Denzel said he was just 15 years old.

“We were all chillin’ in the park,” says Denzel, now 20. “The police stopped everybody. Told us don’t move and ran everybody’s names.”

That was the first of a string of 27 police stops, according to field contact records examined by Fusion. Denzel was also arrested four times before he was 18 years old, but he has never been convicted of any crime.

“I couldn’t leave my house without being in fear,” he says.

Thousands of others ages 18 and under also had encounters with Miami Gardens police as recorded in field contact reports like this one.

This dude used a broom to start a fight with cops.

That seems like a good way to get shot dead in your own side yard. Let this be a lesson for all the wannabe badass retards out there.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- A heartbroken South Florida family is demanding answers as they came together Monday night to remember a loved one fatally gunned down during an altercation with Miami Gardens Police.

Friends and family of Lavall Hall lit candles and walked the short distance from his Miami Gardens home, located near Northwest 191st Street and Third Avenue, to the spot where he was shot by officers early Sunday morning. They told 7News they wanted to express their despair for the 25-year-old's death by retracing his footsteps moments before he died.

"We want justice! We want justice!" the marchers chanted in unison over and over as they made their way to the spot where, police said, he confronted police, just after 5 a.m. Hall's family said he suffered from schizophrenia, and when he began pacing outside in the cold wearing only his underwear and a T-shirt, his mother, Catherine Daniels, just wanted help to get him back inside, so she called 911.

"When the police came, I said, 'Please, help me with my child. Take him to the hospital,'" said Daniels as she was surrounded by relatives at the vigil.

Around the corner from the home, however, a confrontation between Hall and two Miami Gardens Police officers turned deadly. Investigators said Hall did not cooperate and engaged in a physical altercation with the law enforcers using an object, forcing them to shoot.

"I heard somebody telling him to stop, 'Don't move,'" said area resident Michelle Robinson.

"Bam bam! We took off running," said a man who claims he heard the gunshots.

A few residents ventured out to see what had happened. A woman who lives nearby said she got a good look at what Hall was holding. "He had a broom, a red broom with straws. Old, red broom," said Regina.

Miami Gardens Police said they are conducting an investigation on the shooting. On Sunday, the department issued a statement which reads in part, "The loss of any life is tragic and understandably difficult. We are investigating the incident and will provide an additional statement as more facts become available. This investigation will be transparent and thorough. Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved."

Monday night, candles and a stuffed monkey marked the spot where Hall passed away. His family said he had been in and out of hospitals and had been recently Baker Acted. Each time, they said, an officer had been able to calm the situation.

Daniels said she wants to know why Hall's interaction with police had such a tragic outcome this time. "They had not called me and tell me anything, homicide, Miami Gardens," she said. "I am still grieving on why they killed my son."

Hall leaves behind an 8-year-old daughter. His family said they believe there is a disconnect in the way local law enforcement deals with people with mental illness, and they hope that this can be remedied.

Miami Gardens Police have not commented on the shooting beyond the statement they issued. As is routine in cases like these, usually officers are placed on administrative leave.

One officer was taken to the hospital as a result of the altercation and treated for cuts and bruises.
I couldn't help but laugh at the stuffed monkey part.

The Baker Act is a law that allows you to be institutionalized against your will if the courts think you're dangerously mentally ill. The real question is, why was this dude at home to begin with?

Nope. I'm sure they're more pissed about a smaller government check than losing a family member.

Never call the cops to your home unless you have the proper ambush in place.
