I am all for spanking a kid, but like Al, I'm a little more on the side that the parents should handle that, because I wouldn't want to leave it up to some of the worthless shits in the public education system or day care workers. Not that all of them are worthless, but plenty are.
god bless.

My son goes to a Montessori school where they aren't allowed to spank the children. He gets away with murder while he is at school. I usually beat his ass three or four times a month at home. It works very well.
I'm all for beating kid's asses, it is a real attention getter. Unfortunately I am not sure how competent some of our educators are these days. I'd have to make a decision based on what kind of person is doing the spanking if I was letting someone at a school do it.

I have seriously spanked my son once. The rest has been a quick pop here and there to get his attention. The last time he new he was in trouble he asked to be spanked instead of being grounded from toys/bike etc. He said that the sting goes away quicker than being grounded. I agree with Ceyko that every child is different. Going in and blindly spanking every kid that messes up is a mistake.
I got more than my fair shares of "pops" in school, but I honestly don't think I am ok with someone else hitting my kid. If physical punishment is an absolute necessity then I will do. The school can call me and I will make the decision...not them. Hell I don't like hitting my kid...much less letting someone else hit them. I don't trust some A. Principal that has little to no relationship with my kid.

Spare the rod Spoil the child? Is that how it goes?
I had a teacher in 6th grade that had a cut down boat paddle on the back of the room door. When she got pissed she would slam that door, and it would go to swinging... Silence...
Mrs. Hester.
It's name was "Old Yeller"
I got nailed in high school too, friends were shooting paper clips at each other, I almost put a friends eye out with a lucky blind shot.
BTW you should never shoot paper clips a people... it is bad.
