  • searching the internet sucks now.

So google has become fucking useless. When you search something all you get is ads for amazon and shit. The days of learning from the internet are behind us. Forums where king. I learned more from forums than I did in college.
But now it seems almost impossible to find things. when I bought my 2016 GT I google searched how to convert it to apple carplay and found part numbers and update files along with detailed instructions on how to do it. $75 later I was good to go. My buddy just bought a 2016 F350 and wants to do the same thing, and I can't find shit online anymore. I don't mean to sound like a crotchety old man, but I really do feel like things where better even just a few years ago.

are there any good search engines left?

This might sound funny, but watch a tutorial on searching. There are a lot of small tricks, such as using quote marks to keep words together in search, that can easily improve your results. You can get pretty elaborate with it.

I'm not talking pop up ads, I mean all the search results are links to buying crap.

              research the dead internet theory

I echo your thoughts about google search being bad. In the early '10s there used to be better filters to search with, the best one was "discussion boards". You could make google only look at forums with that box checked. It was removed around the same time facebook groups started gaining majorly popularity and forums started getting bought up and gutted left and right.

You used to could also adjust the filter to search for certain time ranges also, very helpful.

Anyone thing I've recently noticed more and more is auto filtered comments. If i look at facebook on a phone often times I'll get a notification of a comment response. The comment is invisible in mobile mode and only appears when viewed in desktop mode. Unrelated to OPs remarks, but strange new internet things nonetheless.

The internet only cares about revenue and exploiting people for revenue now.

Give your tune a try or at the end of your search add "forum". Helps narrow searches to those word in forums.

As much as it pains me to say it...

Add "reddit" to the end of your search terms. It's not the same as the dedicated forums that we're used to from 'back in the day' but you're likely to find a topical thread with real people talking about whatever it is you're looking for and more often than not you'll get an answer or at least pointed in a better direction.

Yeah for a lot of things "reddit" or "forum" is still useful.

I have noticed too when looking for things there is just not a lot of helpful info to be found. It is all over the place with results.

What are some of the other search engines you all are using these days? I still use duckduckgo but it is now owned by google.
