I just picked up an OBS stepside on CL, but it wasn’t easy. It also took forever to find a decent deal. Buying anything online is a long game and a crapshoot nowadays. There are too many scammers and idiots out there.

I also think there are a lot of “see it’s for sale” ads to appease wives and girlfriends.

How else do you buy it, except for online? The stealership is just looking to bend you over. I guess you could always just go door to door, asking when you see something you like. I've known people that would do it. "Hey you wanna sell your truck?"

hell ya got to negotiate . i went thru this on mp. some guy had an old 54 ford 350 setting on the frame . no axles just the cab/frame . all i wanted was the frame for the vin. asking 1500 . asked him what he could do on it no response. offered 500 and he got all butt hurt cussing me out and removed it. i might have gone 800 but a 1ton is pretty much useless unless wanting parts .

i stopped the door knocking about old cars last time i had a gun drawn on me. sob sent his dog after me too.

Craigslist sucks because you have to pay to post car ads

Same here. Haven't used Book Face in 8 years until recently using Marketplace. I would prefer a different option.

I still use CL. It's a crapshoot either way.

It's five whole bucks on cars and MC's and it knocked the scammers in the dirt.

Not quite 100% effective but a lot better than it used to be.

That’s the thing too is anything at least I have found on CL has been reasonably priced. Anywhere else I search it’s like Barrett-Jackson or Richard Rawlings is selling it.

These days it's build it yourself, or pay through the nose for classic iron. $15k for a squarebody that's in good shape. I used to buy them for $1500 in good shape. I once bought a very nice 81 silverado from an old man for $800. Replaced the wore out seat cover and the cracked dash and it looked very nearly new. Same truck today - $18k

Of course, that's the nature of classic cars. You can't really complain cause when things get rare they go up in price. Same thing will happen to any nice looking truck from the 2000's 10 or 15 years from now.

And that is my dilemma. I want what's in between this. I don't want a ready built car. I want to buy something with a straight body like doesn't have the frame or pans rusted to shit, or has bondo all over, but needs mechanical work/small cosmetic things. I can't mess with body work. It's a tough find.

Whole damn used market is a joke right now. People paying stupid for stuff. Although I am seeing a slow down. Guy I know has a nice Foxbody listed for 10 k. He paid 6 a few months back. He's not getting any action at 10. Its worth 6.

finished cars bring what someone sees. my problem is with rusted junk for 3500. you just cant start there knowing 80% will be junked and replaced. i'm looking for a frame to title . i've found a couple that the frame is all that is valuable. but they still want stupid money for them. on has rusted out hood , cab corners , floors and drip rail rusted out. bed beat all to hell , fenders pretty much toast setting in the dirt. 2250 . people are nuts right now but mostly desperate for cash.

on high end stuff remember people park capitol in cars. many over pay to show a loss for taxes. i learned many years ago that the auction collector market is not part of the street market. it is business pure and simple. although a lot of folks see shit on auction and think there hohum streetrod should bring 50k.

Good luck! It took me a really long time to find an OBS Chevy worth buying at a fair price.
