Ran into my first issue last night. It seems that the machining tolerances were not quite tight enough for my machine. One of the bearings for the y axis drive shaft that operates the left side of the gantry walked out of its carrier. I spent several hours last night and again this morning trying to sort out the issue.

The machine would not cut a perfect circle on the left side of the bed. The right side was close, but still had some wobble. I tightened everything, cleaned and relubricated, still no luck. I finally noticed the left side of the gantry had some movement to it when I would try and manipulate it by hand. I tried like hell to find something to adjust the tension, or tighten the gears only to summize that they were all press fit, and not very tight fitting.

Finally, I noticed that the bearing that the left side of the drive axle was not supported by anything. So I loosened the set screw on the coupler at the stepper motor, reset the bearing, and tightened everything back down.

Everything seems fine now, however, my question now is, what in the hell allowed it to walk out like that.

Do you have the knife? Or want to engrave a new knife?

Having a little fun today while waiting on parts to dry for custom orders.

It needs some kind of frame to hide the LED strip, and then wrapped with veneer.

Told ya the acrylic will open up a whole other avenue of projects. Do you know if your machine has the ability to add a probe and map out existing objects?

                    Umm...probe?

We have a built in camera, so it will take a picture of the cut bed. It also has the ability to take a picture of writing, drawing, etc, so that it can be cut/etched

I'm going to see how good of a picture I can get of the branding brand.

Tonights edition of fun with lasers.

Etched photos. I need to tweak setting s to get a darker image, but I'm happy with it as a first attempt.

I finished up the LED shilhouette light. I used veneer edging to finish the open perimeter. On production units, I will cut some hoops to glue into place. The LED's glow right through the veneer. Again, as a prototype, I'm happy with it. Should be able to market them in the $20-30 range.

Learning new stuff. We have another vendor fair here in Greenville on the 15th. Trying to expand our swrvices and products to project business into the new year.

how do you know if the scale is correct if you wanted to cut a profile of an object exactly?

Making an exact replica? Yeah, my machine won't cut exact measurements. Something is off with the steppers. I need to spend some time with tech support.

More new stuff. Trying to have stocking stuffer type items available for the show this weekend. I also re-did the hat patch. Much better now. I also got a couple of orders for custom hats.
