Yeah, the 1911 is a good one in that range too.

I've read about a lot of heat issues, some just burning up completely, as well as handshake probs on the Onkyo. I've heard a lot of good things about Denon. My bro-in-law has one and really likes it. Personally I stick with Yamaha or Pioneer Elite. I've got a Yamaha RX-V2500 that does 7x 130 watts RMS that has never had a lick of trouble. It's 6 yrs old or so and I can't seem to part with it. Even when I bought my BD player I got it with 7.1 analog outs so I could keep my receiver. Well...that and I didn't want to spend $1200 on a new comparable model. lolOriginally posted by KOZMO View PostNever have been a fan of Onkyo. We had alot of em in Magnolia burn up on us. Yamaha and Pioneer have excellent receivers in that price range.
Whatever brand/model you start looking at seriously, go to avsforum.com and do some research there before you buy.Whippled '06 by Gearheads - 474rwhp 450rwtq @ 10psi and a few other Borla/Steeda/BMR/CHE/Tokico mods...

Never experienced any of those issues with the few different Onkyo AVRs I've owned. Just a FYI. And I play my Blu-ray movies near or at reference levels with no distortion and never trip the heat circuit protection. I had to get a 1500 V/A UPS/Line conditioner just to handle the load I put them under with just Onkyo + dual 12" subs plugged into them. Have to use another bigger UPS to handle remainder of my AV gear.Originally posted by Chritaka View PostI've read about a lot of heat issues, some just burning up completely, as well as handshake probs on the Onkyo.
My 2 cents....
Mid to High end Denon's are good as well, if that's your preference.Last edited by LS1Goat; 01-20-2011, 01:36 AM.

onkyo was a great value and i had no problem recommending them but they just cant get their act together with HDMI recently.
amazingly they were better in the days of hdmi 1.1 when they were one of the few offering hdmi switching and audio processing. more recently they have gotten in trouble with overheating upscalers, audio dropout, and handshake issues.
they still have some good units, you just have to do your research on avsforums.com first. i dont know about the 608, but the 508 had problems with audio dropout over hdmi.
that being said, none of their current multi-channel integrated units interest me at this time. they simply dont have enough headroom in their power supplies for my tastes.www.hppmotorsports.com
