  • TCU to the Big East

Texas Christian University has accepted an invitation to become an all-sports member to the Big East Conference, industry sources told FanHouse.

The Horned Frogs will join the league beginning on July 1, 2012 and begin play in the Big East in the 2012-13 school year.

The addition of the Horned Frogs will immediately bolster the football league. It also would increase the basketball membership to 17 teams.

They'll win the Big East often. I don't see it as a powerhouse conference. Is that supposed to give the program more credibility?

Travel WILL suck, but I'm sure they'd have no problem holding their own in there. Hell, let them go to the Big 10 and dominate!

          Lol at Denny.

Now we can really see what tcu can do in a bigger conference. Should be fun to see how it plays out.

You know I couldn't resist no matter how ridiculous it sounded.

The Big East really isn't a power conference anymore but it is stronger than the Mountain West. TCU will dominate it and get BCS berths in the future and contend for a national title due to an increase in strength of schedule. It will also slightly increase their recruiting base.

You think they'll get more players from up north, or around here? It probably won't help TV coverage much around here, because no one is familiar with most of those schools. I just find it interesting they're willing to travel like that and possibly play in some bone-chilling weather.

It will probably be a little bit of both. TV coverage is TV coverage as far as a recruiting tool goes. Who cares if your family in Texas can't watch it. I wonder what Boise State is going to do now that TCU is leaving? Will the Pac-10 or Big VII try to pick them up?

Yeah, but Texas is a HUGE recruiting state, especially for any school based here.

*edit* Over 100 players on the roster, and less than 25 are from out-of-state.

That will change with players from up north that live close to the Big East's current schools. They could get use the fact the they will come back to the area X times during their college career so the travel for their family/friends would be easier instead of having to come to Fort Worth 5-6 times a year for home games.
Gary Patterson is a great coach because he has a great eye for talent and gets players that were passed over by the "Big" schools to play at a high level for him.

Think about what it means for basketball! They'll be playing Georgetown, Seton Hall and Syracuse now. Also Cincinatti, Rutgers and Notre Dame always are ranked pretty well in football before the season starts. They also won't be the smallest school in the conference finally.

Notre Dame is not in the Big East in football. It would be cool to see UConn or Pitt though in basketball

Greaaaaat... recruiting from outside of Texas. There's a sure-fire way to turn a team to crap.
