2 top 10 teams and 5 in the top 25 overall isn't bad.

      Didn't even notice aggy missing...

Carlton: Breaking down the schedule of every team in the Big 12 conference

Schedule highlights for every team in the Big 12

Here's a look at every school in the Big 12, and what they have to face this season when conference play begins.

Baylor: The Bears host old Southwest Conference rival TCU for the second straight year but face a brutal road schedule at West Virginia, Texas and Oklahoma. Baylor will again face Texas Tech at Cowboys Stadium on Nov. 24.

Iowa State: So who does Paul Rhoads scare or shock this year? Look at home games against Oklahoma (Nov. 3) or West Virginia (Nov. 24).

Kansas: Charlie Weis' first Big 12 game comes Sept. 15 against TCU. It may not be pretty.

Kansas State: Collin Klein and Co. get an immediate test in the Big 12 opener against Oklahoma. The Sooners won, 58-17, last season in Manhattan.

Oklahoma: The stretch drive will determine whether the Sooners have enough to claim an eighth Big 12 title under Bob Stoops. The annual Bedlam showdown with Oklahoma State on Nov. 24 is sandwiched between road games at newcomers West Virginia (Nov. 17) and TCU (Dec. 1). Oklahoma is still looking for two nonconference games. The Orlando Sentinel reported it might have found one in Florida A&M on Sept. 8.

Oklahoma State: In a word, manageable. West Virginia, with former Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen and longtime Cowboys assistant Joe DeForest, comes to Stillwater on Nov. 10.

Texas: So who supposedly runs the league? Opening Big 12 opponent Oklahoma State and closing foe Kansas State each have bye weeks to prepare for the Longhorns. Texas gets a break hosting newcomers West Virginia (Oct. 6) and TCU (expected to be Thanksgiving).

TCU: The Horned Frogs, a possible contender in their first season, could realistically start 7-0. Then TCU will encounter a five-game closing stretch that includes home games with Kansas State and Oklahoma mixed with road tests at Oklahoma State, West Virginia and Texas.

Texas Tech: With just one home Big 12 victory the last two seasons, the Red Raiders have three chances to give Tommy Tuberville a signature win at Jones AT&T Stadium. Oklahoma (Oct. 6), West Virginia (Oct. 13) and Texas (Nov. 3) each visit Lubbock.

"We are going to have the opportunity to host probably three top-10 teams at Jones AT&T Stadium," Tuberville said, "and I don't think any other school in the country can say that."

West Virginia: The Big 12 era begins in Morgantown with Baylor on Sept. 29, part of five home conference games.

        Saturdays (and Thursday) of note

Breaking down five marquee games in the 2012 Big 12 football season, with comment by Chuck Carlton:

Sept. 29 - Baylor at West Virginia: Teams combined to score 137 points in bowl wins

Oct. 13 - Texas vs. Oklahoma: Two have combined for nine Big 12 titles since 2000

Nov. 10 - West Virginia at Oklahoma St.: Old home week for WVU's Holgorsen, DeForest

Nov. 17 - Oklahoma at West Virginia: Late-season showdown could decide Big 12 race

Nov. 24 -TCU at Texas: Don't fret. It's almost certain to be Thanksgiving night.

        Big 12 schedule highlights

*Red River Rivalry in Dallas on Oct. 13. TCU, as expected, to play at Texas Thanksgiving week but on Saturday (Nov. 24).

*Difficult closing stretch for Oklahoma: N17 at West Virginia, N24 Oklahoma State, D1 at TCU.

*TCU first Big 12 game at Kansas on Sept. 15. First Big 12 home game in the renovated Amon Carter Stadium: Oct. 6 vs. Iowa St.

*Baylor becomes the first Big 12 opponent for West Virginia, in the Mountaineers homecoming, on Sept. 29.

*Big 12 has four conference games on Dec. 1 to keep the league on the football landscape during Championship Saturday.

*Baylor vs. Texas Tech series at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington set for Nov. 24.

*Tommy Tuberville, Texas Tech have a chance at three signature home wins: O6 Oklahoma, O13 West Virginia and N3 Texas.

*Trap game for Texas: Dec. 1 at Kansas State to close the season. Bill Snyder or Ron Prince, doesn't matter, bad things happen to Texas.

*TCU easing into Big 12 play with a trip to Kansas Sept. 15. West Virginia taking more aggressive approach with Baylor on Sept. 29.

*Final two games will likely mean the difference between a good season and great one for TCU: at Texas N24 and hosting Oklahoma D1.

I don't think the Kansas St. game is a trap game by any means. Not when Kstate has had Texas' number the past 50(if sure does feel like) years

Could've looked better if 'Ole Miss hadn't gone off the deep end. When they were scheduled they were doing pretty good with Houston Nutt as there coach.

The SEC is tougher than the NFL.

It's not the toughest, but it's not weak.

If anybody think that that schedule is weak, they're fucking dumb. West Virginia, TCU, Okie State, Oklahoma? The Big 12 is a legit conference again, then you throw Wyoming on top of that? At least 1/2 of the schedule are good teams. I predict that unless Ash somehow learns to throw a football, the Horns are gonna be sub .500 this season. Luckily Jonathan Grey will be in the mix, but as a true freshman, I'm not sure how well he'll do.

With Ash taking snaps, the team will be one dimensional still.
