That said, when I was watching the replays last night, in addition to the shaking off of the sign, he also did a bit of a flinch in which his glove and right hand moved ever-so-slightly towards one another. And I mean like less than an inch. So for THAT I could see the balk call, but it is still cutting it really close in my mind.

I couldn't count how many bad calls I have seen umps call without hesitation.

Regardless, he and Eric Wedge both admitted to it. If you take a look, he does a little shoulder shrug/flinch. It's pretty visible and not difficult to see from the home plate perspective.



You can see his chest/shoulders move right before he shakes him off (0:21). It's a balk.

They usually start looking for balks after the opposing team points them out. Holland used to have probably the best pick off move in the game, until other teams complained enough to make it a balk. He got away with in his last start though and I'm sure he'll keep using it until it's a balk again.

Rangers aren't playing today, but Oakland is. They looked to be in control and heading for a 4 game sweep of the Tigers. They were leading 6-3 going to the bottom of the 9th and Detroit won on a walk-off 3R HR. Go Detroit! Sucks though as the Oakland's closer Balfour is on my fantasy BB team. Doh!
