  • Cooperstown Dream Park 12U World Series

We are here in Cooperstown, NY competing against 103 other 12yr old teams from around the country. This is a pretty neat experience for the kids. They all stay in a cordoned off barracks area and parents dont have much access to the kids around game time or during game...which is a good thing for many little league dads out there.
Anyway, we are team #30, Fort Bend Skeeters. After day 1 we are 4th ranked. We play today at 11a and 4:30p (eastern time). You can watch the 11a game live at dreamsparktv.com. Make acct and watch field 8, us against San Diego Naturals. Colby went 5-5 yesterday with 2 singles, a walk and a huge 3 run HR...we run-ruled both teams (13-1, 16-0 so games ended after 4 innings.
We play 6 seed games and based on our performance, we get seeded into a 104 team single elimination tourney...the higher your seed, the less games you have to play to get to the championship. There are some stacked teams here, but I expect us to go pretty deep in the tourney.

Go here for tourney info...game results, bracket, rankings, etc.

Our #9 hitter had a huge day...he hit a grand slam in both games and had 2 singles and a walk. It was awesome for him...he had been struggling at the plate this year...granted, we face much better pitching in the tourneys in Texas than we have faced so far...

We won both games today. Colby hit huge HRs in each game. One was well over 300ft. Not many 12yr olds doing that.
We played better competition so we gave up 5 runs in each game. This will probably knock us down a couple spots for seeding.
We play a really good major team from Utah at 8:30a. Will be our toughest test thus far. Colby gets the start...

Awesome job by the boys, Dave. I was watching on GC when Colby came up in the third and then again when they walked him in game 2. I'll check on them tomorrow too. Figures you'd be out of town when I'll be in Houston with Jordan. He has USA Baseball tryouts Wednesday. Good luck to Colby tomorrow!

Awesome! If you get bored the Ommegang Brewery is down the road a couple of miles, they have a great restaurant inside and of course some pretty awesome beers.

Colby dominated the team for 3 innings. It was 3-1 us at that point. They scored a run because he walked a batter and was allowed to score on an error...which hurt us in the end. They got a good hit off his cutter in bottom 4th and he plugged the next batter in the back. Next batter up caught up to his fastball and put it over the RF fence. Ugh. He struck out the other batters in that inning. It was 4-3.
Coach puts new pitcher in that is lefty and throws slow. 3 ground balls and we are out of the inning. Top 6th we put up 2 runs and then get bases loaded with 1 out. Colby comes up and they strike him out on junk pitches...a couple of which were definitely not strikes...same happens to the next kid. So 6-4 us bottom of 6th (last inning). Coach brings in another pitcher...another right hander that throws hard with good offspeed. He walks one and gives up a single. Strikes out the next 2 and the next kid goes yard for a walk off victory...heartbreaking loss for sure.
It was just a pool game so the loss just meant we had to play an extra game to get to the championship.
The final pool game was last night. We faced a major team from Illinois. Colby had a huge game with 2 HRs. The first was well over 300ft. The 2nd was a grand slam. We won that one 18-5.
This put us 15th seed out of 104 teams. If we win our first bracket game today, we likely get to face that same team that walked off on us!!
                  Here's the bracket...

Here is where they will post results of each bracket game. Our first game is at 4p ET today. If we win that one, we play again at 6:30.

Oh man .... My heart hurt just reading that lol. Hopefully they get the chance against that team and crush em in the game that matters.

First elimination game....we played flat and got beat. We made 4 errors including sliding in home head first in bottom 5th which would have tied game but was an out as that's a Cooperstown rule...no sliding into home headfirst or it's an out. Colby did hit his 6th HR of the week though.
Sucks for the boys...they played great up until this point.

Sounds like a great experience none the less. Those losses are tough. Jordan's team was in Steamboat Springs last summer for a big 9u national tournament. We rolled into the championship of a double elim (they split into multiple brackets) on the winner's side. We dropped the first game after it being a 2-2 game through 4 innings. In the true championship game that followed, we led the entire way before losing on a 2 run walkoff with 2 outs. The kids were crushed, but they are kids.

These tournaments are a great experience, and it sounds like Colby had a great week. Kudos to the team and to him!
