$300 an inch. So a 8" Chef's knife is $2400, a 10" would be $3000. That's a single knife, not a set. Depending on what all you require, a set could run well north of $15,000. And HIGHLY unlikely that you can even get a full set. Due to the amount of time it takes to manufacture, and the fact that he's a one man show, and the demand for his knives, you have to get on a lottery list to even get one. And even then, you're not guaranteed to get anything. Or you can bid via private auction on his site.Originally posted by 94mstng94 View PostHow much for one of these??Originally posted by BradMBut, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.Originally posted by LeahIn other news: Brent's meat melts in your mouth.

Jesus. Does he forge them at Mount Doom?Originally posted by bcoop View Post$300 an inch. So a 8" Chef's knife is $2400, a 10" would be $3000. That's a single knife, not a set. $300 an inch? Thats retarded! It could cut through a solid plate of titanium then skin a tomatoe and still not be worth that IMO. Then again I obviously dont take cooking as seriously as you guys.
To the OP, I would also send a letter. I use cheap shit and have never had a knife break like that and Im using some old no name crap that my parents gave me when I moved out over 10 years ago.

Tools of the trade, my friend! For a Chef, or even aspiring Chef, it makes perfect sense. Look at the absurd amounts of money mechanics have tied up in tools and toolboxes. When I've got $20k or so to blow, I'll bite the bullet. A Chef using Kramers would likely never have to buy another knife in their lifetime.Originally posted by Lason View Post$300 an inch? Yep. It's all in what a person's time is worth, and given that he doesn't have a whole lot of time left, I can understand the premium. And of course, supply and demand come in to play. He and his helper can only make so many a year, and they have more of a market than they can even serve.Originally posted by MOSFET View PostThat's actually really damn cool. I can see why they cost so much.
This is a lost art, really. I can't think of another person like him, that has the grasp on that craft like he does. A dying breed for sure. It is definitely some cool shit. I want a set, but realistically, I just want to get my hands on a 10" Chef's knife before he checks out. I'd be happy with that.Originally posted by BradMBut, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.Originally posted by LeahIn other news: Brent's meat melts in your mouth.

I am looking for a set of knives right now, and while I would love a high end set, they are just not in the budget right now. I did however come across these two sets and am trying to decide between the two.
I have never heard of these myself.....
or
Or if you have a different suggestion in the same price range, I would love to hear it.

Like I said, as long as you're looking at sets that cover all the bases, forged, full tang (and both meet my criteria), etc, pick whatever is more comfortable in your hands. Personally, I'd go with the Henckels, out of the two sets you posted. But like I mentioned, I've got two sets of Henckels, and have no complaints with either one. I would like the blades to be a little thicker, but I hone my knives every time I pull them out of the block, so it's really not an issue.Originally posted by billybob81 View PostOr if you have a different suggestion in the same price range, I would love to hear it.Originally posted by BradMBut, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.Originally posted by LeahIn other news: Brent's meat melts in your mouth.
