Per the website it is to "finish smokehouse construction". I'll talk to my colleague in Austin. He's involved, and he's the one that told me about it earlier. He said something about making the patio bigger, etc.

OK that would make more sense. He's probably busy as hell and could use the extra room already. I still haven't been there as I haven't been out that way but it's on my list for this summer to hit up.

My cousin is in town next week and wants to try a BBQ place He's in FTW What would y'all suggest ?
My first thought is hard 8 because it's close to my work and it's a touristy type place but is there somewhere else toward FTW we should try
I've been to hard 8 a lot and would like to try something else

i dropped in lockhart (plano) last night. not as good as my first trip but still good.

the issue was my brisket wasn't the same at all. i asked for the same thing i always do: sliced, moist + bark, but this time i got little to no bark. it was moist but it was from the round, i prefer all my sliced brisket from the flat.

i did try a 1/4 pound of their beef shoulder and the prime rib. the shoulder is decent but i'll stick to the brisket. the prime rib was a solid performer, i could take that as a change up every now and then.

Maybe we need to plan a GTG to hit both up on the same day?? Maybe do an impromptu BBQ ranking.

Living in Frisco I have to consciously make an effort to go try these places out. Again, not a fan of Slow Bone. I think they put way too much sage in their rub.

I went to Lockhart last week. Very good, but I preferred Pecan Lodge. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts after eating both.

Has anyone tried Bartleys in Grapevine?

Everyone I work with says its awesome, but they have seriously let me down with past recommendations.

I need to go check it out since it's near my office.

Right now my BBQ rankings for the area are

1 - Lockhart in Plano
2 - Big Daddys Roadhouse BBQ in Lavon
3 - Slow Bone in Dallas
4 - Fred's in Irving
5 - Sammy's BBQ in downtown or Mike Anderson's by Parkland

I ate at Fred's a couple of months ago and wasn't to impressed with it. I hadn't been there in probably 15 years and it could be another 15 years before I go again and I won't miss it. Granted I didn't have the loaded potato but if the brisket sandwhich is any indication to what the potato is like, I would pass.
