After having two kids go through college, I was shocked at how many "minority" scholarships/grants/benefits are out there. Middle-class white people get very little help.

Yep. We are about to send our first kid to college; she made a 34 on the ACT and scored high as hell on the SAT and didn't get jack shit for scholarships/grants/benefits because we are middle-class white folks.

Mike, private college's offer a lot more "academic" money than state schools can. A 34 on an ACT is worth some money at Southwestern (at Georgetown), University of Dallas, Rhodes, Hendricks, etc.
