South Korea vs. North Korea (Conflict Thread)

SEOUL/BEIJING (Reuters) – North Korea said on Friday it would strike again at the South if a live-fire drill by Seoul on a disputed island went ahead, with an even stronger response than last month's shelling that killed four people.

Call off the drill or call their bluff? Is standing their ground worth losing Seoul?

How long do you suppose SK should continue to suffer the ongoing threats and acts of war from NK without finally standing ground?

Yeah, the ROK (Republic of Korea) soldiers are hard core. You're late for formation, you are tied to a pole and beat with a whip. You don't do it twice. They are serious, though when they bivouac, they tend to just line up in a line on the road. Some ways they are clever, others, straight up stupid

Yeah, oddly enough though they were nice as could be when I've talked with them.

Japanese were nice enough too, talked with a bunch of them going into Iraq via DOHA. They must've found the biggest troops they had, cause these guys were at least 6' tall and bulked up pretty good. Must be their "These are the troops we let the American's see."

(Reuters) - South Korean marines have ordered residents of Yeonpyeong island to move to air raid bunkers in anticipation of a live-fire drill on Monday.

North Korea has threatened to strike if the South went ahead with the drill from the island off the Korean peninsula's west coast and in disputed waters between the rival Koreas.

Dec 17 (Reuters) - Russia's foreign ministry summoned the South Korean and U.S. ambassadors to express "extreme concern" on Friday over a planned live-firing drill near a disputed maritime border with North Korea.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Borodavkin met with the envoys and "insistently urged the Republic of Korea and the United States to refrain from conducting the planned firing," the ministry said in a statement.
