First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.

Ignoring that which does not concern our immediate interests is a fine plan FreightTrain. It's worked so well in the past as evidenced by the above - you go on ahead with that kindergarten plan now and the rest of us will continue on here discussing unions, which, incidentally was a big part of the topic of this thread in the first place.

Yes, I'm okay for people making what their labor is worth as determined by the market. Are you saying there are no federal laws in place about minimum wages, overtime laws, OSHA and so forth?

Why should anyone settle for $10/hr? I suppose getting an education and doing something with your life is out of line?

It affects every person posting in this thread, you're just too ignorant to realize it.

Any other angle you want to try to claim i don't know what I'm talking about? We've gone from "You're a liar" to "Well every place has lots of worthless people so that makes it ok" to "things have changed". Where else you want to go with this?

One thing I have noticed is that you haven't come out and said that you aren't surrounded by lazy fucks that you have to pull through the mud every day. To me that says that either you know it is true or you are one of the lazy fucks. Which is it?
Odds? I give the bolded option -180, LOL

Unions are past their point of necessity. Now they're in it for more money and their very existence.

As far as all those innnocent people at the Hyundai plant they will each have a vote on the union. If the majority votes it down case closed no union. It doens't affect you so why worry about it.

The LAST thing that the unions want is for Boeing to open up a plant in a right to work state. That's why this is an issue.

They still fire people. There is just more paperwork to do and more approvals to get first.

Oh, and as far as squeezing a few more bucks out of hyundai? Sure, if they unionized that might happen. But Hyundai would likely respond with job cuts and the whole thing would go downhill. People were not dragged into the Hyundai plant and forced to work at gunpoint; those people are HAPPY to have a nice paying job, and they are not about to upset the apple cart.

Of course that's what happens when you only read the headlines and not the whole story.

It is true in the UAW. I saw a girl hit our supervisor with a piece of a bumper on purpose and she wasn't fired. She was back at work the next day. There was another guy who drank straight Weller 107 from an Apple juice bottle on the assembly line. Happened all the time, no one said a thing. Another guy was asked if he wanted to work overtime, he looked the supervisor in the face and screamed "FUCK YOU!" while flipping him off. Then there was "One day Ray" who would come in about every fourth month for a few hours and get hurt and go out on disability. Yet another guy I called "fox turd" because he used to go hunting and smeared fox turds all over himself to mask his scent would come by my job on the line and turn up a 750 ml of Everclear right in front of everyone. None of these people were fired, none of them were even written up that I know of. If they were ever taken to labor relations, their union rep was in there making sure nothing happened.

The bottom line is you guys can say whatever you want and blow smoke up people's asses about the union environment. You aren't going to piss down my back and tell me its raining though, I was there, I saw it with my own eyes for years. Granted, a skilled trades environment can be different but it isn't that much different, the people who work still carry the lazy asses every day.

Corporate America is full of lazy asses and some of the stories I've heard from friends wouldn't even fly at my job. On the railroad if you don't do whats expected of you the company just charges you with being insubordinate and your ass is fired. Nothing the union can do.

Oh, the company did $5.1 billion last year (2010).
Thanks for making my point. You can be a complete drain for 4 months before you are fired, but be honest. You have to be a complete fuck up and piss alot of folks off before they deem you "poor performance" for a quarter. In other words someone can squeek by doing substandard work for a long time without ever making the radar and being hit with "poor performance."
