The statement "sanctions are an act of war" can definitely be argued, but in most all cases, it leads to bombs being droped.
I think we can both agree that United Nations sanctions are a complete joke. Back when I was a GOP go-hard I scoffed at them because they NEVER worked; they don't persuade the state to act in the desired way.
Yes, sanctions cause suffering on the State being "punished," but it also really hurts the commoners. The state government blames the sanctions, and now there is a common battle cry that unites people to the radical government that probably wasn't supported by the people in the first place.
Just look through the past. Sanctions have lead to war ever since World War II. We stopped selling oil to the Japanese, and in turn they had their fiasco at Pearl Harbour which was the first external attack on US soil since the war of 1812. Some say these sanctions were designed to get the United States into the war, but I digress.

Am I saying Iran is "good?" No! I am saying that imposing sanctions against a sovereign state is ineffective and probably serves to induce the opposite desired effect. Moreover, it is tyrannical in nature as sanctions threaten the sovereignty of a state. This is why I believe sanctions to be an act of war.
