  • Obama administration guts work requirements for Clinton-era welfare reform

THE ERA OF BIG GOVERNEMENT IS OVER BACK!!

Just begging to have an economic crisis, aren't we? The pandering to the moochers of America is in full swing, and he is making no efforts to hide the obviousness of it.

The landmark welfare reform law President Bill Clinton signed in 1996 helped move nearly 3 million families off the government dole — the result of federal work requirements that promoted greater self-reliance.
Yesterday the Obama administration gutted those federal work rules, ignoring the will of Congress by issuing a policy directive that allows the Department of Health and Human Services to waive the work requirements for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. “The result is the end of welfare reform,” wrote Robert Rector and Kiki Bradley of The Heritage Foundation.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), author of welfare reform legislation, said in response to the news:
President Obama just tore up a basic foundation of the welfare contract. In exchange for taxpayer-funded TANF payments, the law calls on able-bodied adults to work, look for work, take classes, or undergo drug and alcohol counseling. It’s the tough love that gives people motivation to help themselves.
The administration’s decision follows other recent executive actions on immigration, marriage, religion, education and energy policies. In each case, President Obama has put his own “imperial presidency” ahead of Congress and federal law.
The latest maneuver is particularly alarming given the rising number of Americans who rely on the government for aid. Obama has dramatically increased welfare spending. TANF, the program in question, is just one of more than 70 welfare programs operated by the government at a cost of nearly $1 trillion per year.
Jordan, who leads the conservative Republican Study Committee, last year spearheaded a plan to reform welfare. The Welfare Reform Act of 2011 would require recipients of food stamps to work or prepare for a job, disclose the costs of total federal, state, and local welfare spending, and return welfare spending to its 2007 level once unemployment hits 6.5 percent.
The administration’s action goes in the opposite direction, Jordan warned: “By waiving the law’s requirements, President Obama will make it harder for Americans to escape poverty. He is hurting the very people he claims to help.”

Meanwhile, this game of chess will continue to get tougher to walk away from...

Can you imagine how huge the collapse would be if a President came in and ripped the band aid off in 8 years if this goes unchecked?

For those that say the POTUS doesn't matter, because congress makes laws...BULLSHIT! It DOES make a difference who's in office. Again, if you can't see the difference between the two candidates in this coming election, you have to be an idiot.

I was just reading an article on FoxNews (as well as other sites) that speak towards the gentleman who wrote a book in 2006 forecasting our economic collapse. There is another gentleman who claims that we are in for a 90% drop in the stock market, a large percentage (over 50%) un-employment rate and a few other numbers. Basically, he stated that we are 100% headed towards a full out worldwide recession with a chance for economic collapse starting in 2012. The biggest reason mentioned was the way our government is borrowing money we don’t have in order to jumpstart the economy, kind of like using credit cards to pay off your monthly car note...

Anyways, I can’t seem to find the article but as soon as I do I will edit my post with the link. This action as well as previous actions make it hard for me to ignore the predictions considering they were spot on in the past...

Romney hits Obama move gutting welfare reform

While the Obama campaign goes all out attacking Mitt Romney’s business history, the Romney campaign is looking carefully at a new Obama administration policy that could become a significant part of Romney’s case against the president. In a quiet move Thursday — barely noted beyond the conservative press — the Obama administration “released an official policy directive rewriting the welfare reform law of 1996,” according to Robert Rector, a welfare policy expert at the Heritage Foundation.

The directive — which some Romney aides found stunning — allows the Department of Health and Human Services to waive the work requirement at the heart of welfare reform. That reform, originally vetoed but later signed into law by President Bill Clinton, is widely viewed as the most successful policy initiative in a generation. Under it, the growth in welfare rolls was reversed and millions of people moved from welfare to work.

Despite its success, however, many liberals remain opposed to reform. For example, in the years immediately after passage of the law, Barack Obama himself pledged to do all he could to undo it. Now, he has.

The administration’s action means “the end of welfare reform as we know it,” in Rector’s words. In coming days, look for the Romney campaign to press that case — showcasing what Obama has done in office, even as the president fixates on an imaginary narrative of what happened at Bain Capital years ago.

Friday morning, with Obama’s action still largely unreported, Romney released a statement calling Obama’s move “completely misdirected.”

“President Obama now wants to strip the established work requirements from welfare,” Romney said. “The success of bipartisan welfare reform, passed under President Clinton, has rested on the obligation of work. The president’s action is completely misdirected. Work is a dignified endeavor, and the linkage of work and welfare is essential to prevent welfare from becoming a way of life.”

By doing this, Barry over rode congress (meaning the will of the people) again.

Clinton was forced into it by Gingrich and the boy's, and so he could re-elected in '96. I doubt Billy would put his bong down long enough to protest.
