In the wake of the tragic shooting in Aurora, Colorado, it is time to take a long, hard look at the role of guns in our society. This is not about politics but about pure common sense....

...The liberals would say that it is the NRA and the gun industry, who make it absurdly easy to secure assault weapons in the United States, including over the Internet. The conservatives in turn would say that it is not guns but people who do the killing. Literally speaking they are correct, but if the essence of what the conservatives claim is true, then the reason we have crazy massacres in this country is because Americans are a bunch of homicidal maniacs with no impulse control; and if that part is true, then should we really allow this same crackpot citizenry to carry firearms? You see the problem?...

...One thing that I do agree with conservatives on is that violence does not stem from any one factor alone, including guns. ...

...The deaths of innocent people should never be a political issue or even an ideological one,...
He seems to be confused about the meaning of the word "politics".

Not true. If someone had returned fire, he'd probably have fled. He didn't want to get hurt, that's why he surrendered to cops. He went into a gun free zone, in a gun free town armed to cause casualties. Cops opening fire on him would have stopped him cold.

But to answer his question, cops have no requirement they serve or protect. Supreme Court said.

This man is ignorant. A lack of firearm education (read fear) is no reason to punish everyone else.

Why did none of the six not return fire? Also read three boyfriends died trying to protect their girlfriends. Maybe those guys should have had the six guns in attendance...

And granted, we don't have the stories of those six, but why in hell didn't one out of six step up and say hey...

owning a dozen high-powered assault weapons with high-capacity clips.
Proof that whoever wrote that has no clue what the hell they are talking about.

how about Batman control or Joker control? They seem to have played a role in this too. Maybe we should limit the violence in movies and video games. After that we can limit hate speech.
