I like how you ignored my Muslim comparison... You have repeatedly poste things against Muslims. Are they not entitled to free speech too?

I didn't ignore your Muslim comment. If a Muslim is saying "I hate America, fucking burn baby burn" then it's going to piss me off but I have gone through great lengths to protect their right to say that. By all means, say whatever you like. It's when it become an action that you do something or there is an immediate threat.

When it becomes an action, it's too late. 9/11, Killeen, Aurora, CO, etc.

Every one of those gave more hints than a random facebook post. Most of them were professionals (psychologists, military officials, etc) refused to act based on political correctness.

I will always side on the side of freedom. Sometimes that has unpleasant consequences, but when you allow government to pull people in and 'evaluate' people based on unpopular speech, you kill free speech and grant government too much power.

perhaps they should have called a town meeting, put it into a vote and then 10 months later found it okay to question him about murders he committed 9 months PREVIOUSLY. You are one of the first to talk about PTSD and how it can make people a little loopy... like in the thread about mstng's cousin. This is someone taking the steps to help him and or prevent another and possibly more destructive situation. Your initial post says he wasn't charged. Don't be dense, pick fights worth fighting.

Right. The way you handle someone you believe is dangerous with PTSD is to come to his home with the Secret Service (not their job), the FBI and the Sheriff's department to make him feel threatened. You really don't know how you handle 'dangerous' people do you?

n a hearing held at the hospital, government officials disregarded Raub’s explanation that the Facebook posts were being interpreted out of context, sentencing him up to 30 days’ further confinement in a VA psych ward. In coming to Raub’s defense, Rutherford Institute attorneys are challenging Raub’s arrest and forcible detention, as well as the government’s overt Facebook surveillance and violation of Raub’s First Amendment rights.

“For government officials to not only arrest Brandon Raub for doing nothing more than exercising his First Amendment rights but to actually force him to undergo psychological evaluations and detain him against his will goes against every constitutional principle this country was founded upon. This should be a wake-up call to Americans that the police state is here,” said John W. Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute. “Brandon Raub is no different from the majority of Americans who use their private Facebook pages to post a variety of content, ranging from song lyrics and political hyperbole to trash talking their neighbors, friends and government leaders.”

To me, that really means nothing. I get the purpose of their statements, but there is no shortage of shitbag attorneys to take up some maligned cause, no matter what it is. Rapists, murderers caught red handed, etc. And they all preach from the same pulpit. I've got news for you... Police state isn't just arriving. It's been here. I don't like it more than anyone else. But there are certain alarms that need to be investigated. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

No charges filed, evidently he didn't do anything worthy of charges but he was cuffed and moved to a mental hospital against his will. So, you guys are supporting a fed coming into your house because they don't like something you wrote or said and taking you away, without charge, and putting you in a mental institution.

Is that what freedom has really come to?

I just think its a VERY fine line between the things he was posting, and action on those things, and the potential for mass tragedy. On the surface, no, I'm not ok with it. And I'm not ok with it being standard practice, because where is that line drawn? And i know if you give an inch, they will take a mile. But I also don't think there is a blanket solution to this problem, and it IS a problem, as recent events have shown. I just don't think there is an option that provides both freedom, and safety for the masses. I certainly can't think of one anyways. Gun control is not the answer at all, that's for sure.

I'm willing to bet they did an emergency detention for a psychiatric evaluation. It's not an arrest. I've done many of them throughout my career.

                              Exactly.

This was a means for them to:
                              a) silence him
                              b) go through his shit and do what they pleased

                              and

                              c) render him "psychologically unsound" and as such never again able to own a weapon.

Whatever happened to the guy on youtube that dressed up and preached about the government being out of control? He got pulled in and talked to, then disappeared, didn't he?

This guy isn't a muslim (lowercase), so buzz off. They are entitled to free speeach until their "religion" recommends and promotes the killings of infidels and Americans. The day to day threats that we get (majority are muslims, islamic decent ect.) are incredible, and if you know, your head would spin. We are not at war agaisnt a few deranged ex soldiers, we are at war agaisnt the enemy, the actual threat. Sadly, the gov is also at war agaisnt our freedoms.
