The governments of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, and Iran are too chickenshit to directly fight Israel, but they can damn sure provide munitions to small unofficial factions to antagonize the Isreali people.

At the same time they (Egypt, Syria) sign UN declarations refusing to grant land the Palestinians claim is theirs, while simultaneously demanding Israel to give them land. For the muslim/arab scheme to work, they need victims. The Palestinians play the victims for the middle east against the West. Remember how the Palestinians were trying to kick out the Israeli settlers on the west bank a few years ago, how the people were smashing cars, throwing rocks, dragging people out of them, and beating them? They need to be sent as refugees to some of the sympathizing countries since they are unable to control themselves. I can't believe Israel has put up with their shit for as long as they have.

The PLO had their share of innocent victims in terrorist attacks, but they went legit in the late 80's, and they finally convinced Israel of that in '91. They do seem to be the most realistic of the factions though.

I am cautious to suggest that this may in fact be a ploy to initiate hostilities with Iran. Israel may very well be initiating this operation against HAMAS to affect a reaction from Iran which they can use as a reason for a strike. It's a lot easier to convince the US to buddy up if the initial intention was to stop the rocket attacks on civilians.
