Statistics also show it's an incredibly small portion of the population. A small portion of the population that seeks out confrontation with the majority under the guise of equality. I don't go to church or beat the bible, but I do recognize churches go out and help the sick and needy spreading good will by and large. What do atheists do besides cause people grief? I don't ever recall seeing them doing this - do they?Originally posted by racrguy View PostI would agree with you, but statistics show that the Non-religious sector of the population is growing rather rapidly."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

Statistics would also show that the population in general is growing rather rapidly. Statistics would also show that the sector of the population growing most rapidly in the U.S., Hispanics, are overwhelmingly Christian. That's the great thing about ststistics, you can use them as needed to refute most statements, such as yours quotethed above.Originally posted by racrguy View PostI would agree with you, but statistics show that the Non-religious sector of the population is growing rather rapidly.

Seriously, it's almost as if their parents never loved them. They want the attention that they aren't getting elsewhere. They go so far out of their way, to be heard, and the lengths they go to, in an effort to be "right", are disgusting. This goes both ways, but being Christian doesn't make someone a good person. Just like being an atheist doesn't make you Satan reincarnate. It's the things you do, that make you a good person. Not what groups you may or may not subscribe to.Originally posted by CJ View PostWhy is a group that doesn't believe something so outspoken about it?
The assholes on both sides need a reality check. I just tend to notice more atheists making spectacles of themselves. Admittedly, I could be a little biased. I grew up in a very religious house, and ALL of my family is very religious. I get just as annoyed by the preaching and judging as I do by, for instance, Sean. But the little things, like "In God we Trust", prayers before a meal, etc dont bother me in the least.
In Sean's defense, I told him his militant atheism was annoying as fuck, and he does seem to have laid off of it a bit.Originally posted by BradMBut, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.Originally posted by LeahIn other news: Brent's meat melts in your mouth.

If, by equality, you mean follow the constitution regarding religion, and don't stigmatize others because of their lack of belief. Then sure, equality.A small portion of the population that seeks out confrontation with the majority under the guise of equality.
Something that doesn't need a church to be done. Unless you're an underaged boy, a woman, or a minority. In that case the church is going to try to spread all the "good will" it can.I don't go to church or beat the bible, but I do recognize churches go out and help the sick and needy spreading good will by and large.
By forcing religion, and the religious to adhere to the constitution regarding their religion is causing people grief? Maybe they shouldn't think they're more privileged than anyone else. Majority rules, minority rights. What do atheists do besides cause people grief?
Because you choose not to. Do a google search for secular charities. There's one you may have heard before, Médecins Sans Frontières. IMO the MSF does far more good than most ANY mission trip I've ever heard of. Sure, the mission trips sometimes bring aid to those that need it, but they also do it under the guise of spreading their religion. The way I see things like that is "I'll give you this medicine you need to live, if you'll listen to me speak about my god." Whereas MSF just says "You need some help, and I can provide some for you, no strings attached."I don't ever recall seeing them doing this - do they?

In Theists defense, there hasn't been much fucktardery going on that needed correction. In God we Trust doesn't bother me either, but if I had my druthers it'd be removed from the money, and E pluribus unum reset as the country's motto. Prayers before a meal don't bother me either. I do not, however, bow my head or close my eyes, I simply remain silent while in someone elses' home while they're talking to the sky fairy.Originally posted by bcoop View PostSeriously, it's almost as if their parents never loved them. I too grew up in a religious house, as a religious person. My mother is Roman Catholic, and my father Southern Baptist, so that point has no bearing on bias. By your own words, you describe yourself as a theist, that's the source of your bias.

I don't really see much of a problem with that, honestly. The guys I volunteer with, do the same. They'll feed you, but they don't get served until after about a 10 minute talk about God, the Bible, etc. I support their right to do it. We fund this out of our own pockets. There is no charity. There is no campaigning for donations. This is our/their money out of our/their pockets, and our/their time. We/they can do with it as we/they see fit.Originally posted by racrguy View PostThe way I see things like that is "I'll give you this medicine you need to live, if you'll listen to me speak about my god."
Not really. It's not that I believe some supreme being exists. I'm undecided. That said, I think it's a little naieve or close minded to think that it's impossible for one to exist.Originally posted by racrguy View PostBy your own words, you describe yourself as a theist, that's the source of your bias.Originally posted by BradMBut, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.Originally posted by LeahIn other news: Brent's meat melts in your mouth.

Fair enough, but don't act like you're doing a charity for them when you're requiring them to take action before they receive a good/service. Essentially what you're doing is selling them the "donation" in exchange for their time.Originally posted by bcoop View PostI don't really see much of a problem with that, honestly. It's funny you say that. I don't think it's impossible for one to exist either. I think your definition of atheism may be a bit skewed. Not really. It's not that I believe some supreme being exists. That is beyond fucking retarded.
You're smarter than that, Sean.
Nope. Sounds like your definition is.Originally posted by racrguy View PostIt's funny you say that. I don't think it's impossible for one to exist either. I think your definition of atheism may be a bit skewed.

Hey, what the fuck! I don't care about any of this, I just googled my name and found you talking about me.

How is it beyond retarded? It's the same thing as your job. You give your time to your employer, as well as actions, in return for a paycheck. Are they not giving your "charity" their time, and actions (listening) in return for a paycheck? The only difference is you receive monetary compensation, they receive goods/service.Originally posted by bcoop View PostThat is beyond fucking retarded.

We're both correct, it appears.Nope. Sounds like your definition is.
