So are you a threat to society? were you ever a threat to society? If no then none of what I proposed would have happened. No body would have advised you that having a firearm easily available to you is not a good thing and that you should probably consider your well being over your safety, and you may want to store the weapons at someplace that isnt within minutes of your houshold so a wrongful impulse doesnt impact the well being of everybody.

You see that advisement didnt take your weapons, it didnt take any rights away, nobody is taking your bank, your car, or your livelihood, and it may inspire you to look after your well being. just because a police officer talks to you doesnt mean bad shit has to happen.

I suggested the the temporary seizure as way to motivate the household into taking care of their own. But if somebody is that negligent that after they have been advised of the threat to society and they dont take care of it what is society to do at that point, just wait for another shooting?

The vets are following doctors orders for these meds and it is killing them, when in all reality what they really need is some damned good weed and a serious vacation.
Have several friends going through that shit right now. One of them has been on so many different meds it's unreal, and it has made him even worse than when he came back from Afghanistan. The VA did nothing to help me out, and has continued to screw over a majority of the guys I served with. I could rant about this issue all day.

I never really knew what high powered meant. Wiki says it's an pretty much semi-auto rifles; no larger than .35 cal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Power_Rifle

Right, because we've seen horrible shit and you civilians seem to either treat us like ticking time bombs who need to be locked away or children who need our rights taken away. I guarantee you you come to my door and try to take my property from me, you're going to find out exactly what I was trained to do. I will not harm anyone and I don't do offensive strikes but defensive? Try me.

Actually, I'm still classified as severely disabled due to PTSD, and Post Concussive Disorder. How about this. What right are you willing to allow me to take from you? How about how many people have been killed because they have a right to privacy and were hiding something? Can't have that either.

Are you going to be reimbursing me for the property you take? Because that's actually in the Constitution. How are you going to pay for these cops and shrinks? How are you going to pay for the lawsuits from the slander of you running your head to the community about something that is covered under patient confidentiality?

sounds like reason you ultimately dont like it is because you may have been one of the ones effected by what I proposed at one time.

Here again here is my challenge to those dont like this come up with your own solution to address mental health and availability of firearms to those individuals (and do it with in a week). Because in 2013 the popular alternative is most likely an AWB , a 'hi cap' mag ban, and possibly a ban on 'military' cal ammo sales to civilians.

According to their data for 2011, 323 people were murdered with rifles. 728 people were murdered with fists and feet. 1694 were stabbed. More people were murdered with a club or hammer, 496, than with rifles. Murder rates have been steadily going down. You are basing your judgment on perception and emotion, nothing more.

A potential for danger? I guess you should stay away from ladders (24,972 people died from falls) and swimming pools (3,517 people accidentally drown). You have the potential to die while using them. I wouldn’t drive either (36,219 died in motor vehicle accidents). And do not drink alcohol (24,518 people died from consuming too much). These stats are courtesy of the Centers for Disease Control.

I will not “agree to disagree”.

The only reason I wouldn't argue using this data is because at some point they are going to notice that handgun murders are in the 6,000's.

Still a good refute against an AWB though...

“Ladies and gentlemen: the story you are about to hear is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent.”

I hijacked a friends Facebook post tonight (I’m good at that) involving someone saying there is no need for so-called “assault rifles”. It went something like this…

Post: If you’re anti-gun, and more specifically… if think, Semi-Automatic “Assault-Rifles” should be banned; because well… our country can no longer stand to have another mass shooting by someone who is “mentally unstable”.
Then I would also challenge you speak up and have CAMERAS banned as well!

Every year thousands of children are victims of Child Pornography, yet we don’t call for a ban on cameras? After all, it’s not the camera “shooting” the child; it’s the mentally sick person.

Please! I ask each of you to put some serious thought toward what the real problems are before you simply just of the bandwagon for more gun control!

GUNS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM… PEOPLE ARE THE PROBLEM!

Commentor: Interesting point, there are many very positive uses for cameras. Can you give me an example of a positive reason that anyone should own a semi automatic assault rifle? Not guns generally, but specifically this type of gun? Agreeing to disagree with you.

Me: You want someone like me and my rifle to be between you and someone with violent intentions. That is the best reason.

Commentor: But does it have to be a semi automatic assault rifle to offer the protection you are speaking of? I feel like my point is being lost.

Me: It absolutely must be the best, most capable tool available. Is your life not worth that?

Your point is not lost. Would you purchase a car with inferior safety systems? Or maybe a house with flimsy door locks? Would you enter a NASCAR race with a Prius? I want the best.

This isn’t simply an argument about “need” either. No one needs nice, fancy, name brand clothes. They only need clothes. People simply need basic nutrition, not gourmet food. A small shed is plenty for shelter from the weather, yet we have large houses. We don’t need 220 TV channels. We can’t even watch them all, yet we have them. Most cars can go twice the speed limit, we don’t need that. We don’t need leather, navigation, butt warmers or any other cool stuff. We don’t even need cars. Think what the national obesity rate would be if everyone walked.

A person who is hellbent on killing people will use whatever tools they can get their hands on. Timothy McVeigh used 5000 lbs of fertilizer to kill 168 people, including 19 children at a daycare in Oklahoma City. A few gallons of gasoline and a match has the potential to bring a considerable death toll if used in the right place.

Some people are dark to their core. There is no law that can be passed to prevent them from committing horrendous acts if they are intent on doing them. We, the law abiding, good natured citizens are the ones who get penalized by reactionary laws. And it is our job to be vigilant and be able to intercept the bad ones when they try to do others harm. When the wolves come, don’t be the sheep, be the guard dog.

“Remember, when seconds count, the police are just minutes away.”

Commentor: You are correct that there will always be people out there that commit horrendous crimes. I feel like our society makes it easier by making these powerful weapons so available. I guess we agree to disagree. You feel safer having these types of guns, I feel it causes potential for danger.

Me: When these types of guns are banned, ones that are not banned will be used in their place. Then you will want to ban them also. So let’s talk facts, not feelings, real, indisputable facts from the FBI Uniform Crime Data. According to their data for 2011, 323 people were murdered with rifles. 728 people were murdered with fists and feet. 1694 were stabbed. I will not “agree to disagree”.

“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” John Adams

Commentor: Again lets agree to disagree. I will never agree or understand why anyone should own semi automatic assault rifles…..you could write a novel and you won’t change my thinking on this. I respect your opinion though.

I hate to call this person closed minded, but if the shoe fits…

With no background checks, I can go into Tractor Supply and buy a Weedeater with a brush hog attachment, walk into a kindergarden or nursery and go buzzsaw on them. Will I? Fuck no.

Or I could take a truck full of propane tanks and flares and blow the whole thing up. Total cost is less than that of an AR and there is no background check. Or I could rent a fucking plane and fly it into a building. Or take fertilizer and diesel and a U-Haul. You're not preventing someone from killing someone who wants to do it. By arming teachers, you're at least giving those in the school a chance.
