Texas officials about teachers: Arm them!

Arm the teachers that want to be armed. Pay for the training. Done. Read the first article in the OP. Its already being done.

I would imagine they should go through a mandatory level of training and be licensed by the Texas Private Security Board. Heck it is a 40hr course for the level III and it is required in Texas for armed security. I am in no way expecting a teacher to be an armed security deterrent but I want them to have the right to carry and the knowledge to do so safely.

You know, I find it extremely funny that we all agree on CHL holders the right to carry in schools. For the life of me, expecially when it concerns our youth, why are we arguing. I am not opposed to extra training. But by making it a requirement, you will drive down the number of school employees that will step up and get a CHL and take the required extra training. The more CHL holders are able to carry on campus, the greater the risk to mass murderers they will be met with an armed responce. The number is the deterent.

You are OK with a pure stranger CHL holder doing whatever they need to keep you and yours safe anywhere that you go, but teachers are special? Your arguement is that TEACHERS need more training because it is a school. I fail to see why they need to be required to have it, while anyone anywhere else just has to pass the required CHL class and subsiquent background check.

I don't guess I understand your theory except In part. How many of these homes and business are armed? Pretty sure all police are. It doesn't seem to be stopping them.

Homes? Few as all the white people have their guns with them, at work.

Businesses? Not sure on the stats there, as to what percentage is armed.

Police aren't fired upon very often, and when they are it's one or two cops, not entire classrooms.

You fail to grasp that just the presence of guns stops this shit in it's tracks. I read an article over the weekend that said ALL of the mass murders in recent history have occurred in soft target gun free zones except for one, which was Gifford. One. There is absolutely no reason to grow government even more by hiring scores of people, with pay and benefits and the rest of it. We can handle this in house, with existing armament and personnel, by encouraging self dependence.

If these crazy bastards know that teachers, even one out of five I bet, were armed they would not do it to start with. Hell, just make it legal, and common practice. Post bogus numbers that "40% of teachers now carry". I would wager even that measure will stop this bullshit!

They arent trying to go into battle, that is why they choose to shoot up that dont allow guns. They want to go in and kill other people before killing themself. You take the security of gun free zones away, they wont be doing that as easily. They dont want to get shot, not die, and have to be held accountable.

and teachers arent going to come out in numbers to be labeled as potential killers. Ignorant people wont have their baby in a classroom where a big bad gun might shoot itself at random. The only way it will fly in any number will be secretively.

Those mentally I'll individuals seem to be smart enough to go places that offer the least amount of possible armed confrontation by another individual. The goal is to remove that so called sanctuary of "gun free zones" from being an option to the ill minded people. We can "what if" all day. What if teacher never hits shooter, but shoots a student and she and 20 other students are killed?

All I'm saying is that if we want to allow guns in our schools, then require additional training.
