I was pretty young during the '60's (I was born in '60). Most people wanted equal rights for blacks, and most people disliked Viet Nam, but the smaller, louder anti-war folks got all the press, just like now. Sure, there was the "klan", but most Americans knew it was wrong. A lot of folks forget that the Dems fought the hardest against "equal rights", and they also drug us into Viet Nam. After his first term, "Tricky Dick" got us out. Man, how the parties have changed. The division I see now is closer to a "Civil War"-type division: Democratic controlled states in severe debt due to poor management and out-of-control social programs, vs. Republican governed states that aren't giving away the house. We are talking about two VERY different philosophies, from cradle to grave.

How many more restrictive laws have been passed since then? How much power has our federal government snatched away from our states, from our local governments?Originally posted by The King View PostOld people said the same thing in the '60s and '70s. I don't buy it.
It is going further and further down the shitter, year by year.
