Typical LEO opinion...Originally posted by John -- '02 HAWK View Postas I read elsewhere he was just a weak minded person who saw his only option as suicide versus serving time.
I have no idea if he was killed or killed himself, but I know getting 50 years prison and a $4,000,000 fine for releasing copyrighted information is pretty ridiculous.

I never said he was.Originally posted by Craizie View PostHe wasnt sentenced.
I assume they are. But consider that the US courts have giving the max sentence in most of the cases that haven't involved a plea bargain. It is the main reason the hackers say they are doing this, the fact that these guys are getting insanely long sentences as when compared with similar cases.Originally posted by Craizie View PostAre those the maximum fines for that crime?

The big problem I have with even charging him in the first place is, there shouldn't be a pay wall on JSTOR articles. They're paid for, and maintained with public and private grants already. The people that funded it won't get any money out of it, and the people that did the research already got paid to do it, so why add a layer of graft to it? Make them all public.ZOMBIE REAGAN FOR PRESIDENT 2016!!! heh

Do you really think a white collar criminal is going to serve that time? He would have been put in low security prison, and would have been paroled in 5 to 10 years if not earlier, IF he had received max sentience. Hell he probably would have been released in 1 year on the condition that he worked a consulting job for the govOriginally posted by stevo View PostTypical LEO opinion...

Not if he won't take a plea, and they're out to make an example of him.Originally posted by John -- '02 HAWK View PostDo you really think a white collar criminal is going to serve that time? Do you really believe all the horseshit you just posted? The GOV is using these cases to make examples of these guys. The DOJ is giving disproportionate sentences in most every case. That is why Anon is pissy.Originally posted by John -- '02 HAWK View PostDo you really think a white collar criminal is going to serve that time? I do find it comical that you would think someone would get paroled in 5 years or earlier while doing a 50 year sentence.

I think that white collar criminals are treated on a different standards when they arent threats to society. Which is why they get work releases, day passes, placed on house arrest or in half way homes, have their parole reviews moved, have their sentences adjusted or pardoned, and released early due to overcrowding.
BTW he was never sentenced thus never even went through appeals process. If he was truly an activist that believed in his convictions he would have continued the fight. He choose to run away
