Im glad to see something is getting done. You cant whine because they are here illegally and then whine again when they are offered citizenship and will be tax payers. If they want to be US citizens then Im all for it. If they refuse to go through the new streamlined process (whatever it may be) then piss on them and kick their sorry butts out.

The GOP is trying to cater to the Hispanic population. It's quite obvious. If there was some actual reform and make these immigrants go thru the gates of legalization, I'm all for it. I however think the way our Govmt is ran, it will just snowball into amnesty and plug up the legal way of citizenship.

Which I feel also is evident that 50% is sufficient...Originally posted by Vertnut View PostIt's true he strives for a "simple majority", but he didn't have near that and rammed Barry-Care down our throats. It's more about what HE thinks is right for the rest of us.
I sure wish he would think we should all have personal responsibility, which is what we built this country upon...now, we have spent at least 100yrs living off the legacy of our founding ancestors....and that legacy is quickly eroding as we are not putting back into it...
LOL, like the majority of Americans with their "savings" accounts...

It's all lip service. Good intentions by politicians died a long time ago. Only occasionally do they ever hold up to their word and usually this happens in an election year.Originally posted by mikec View PostOne man, Rubio, will not make a hill of beans difference. And they did say "only after the borders are secured", which big sis says has already been done. Lip service is all it is.
We depend on these people too much, just as we depend on the grocery store and fast food joints to provide our lives with substinance. We have all spent decades depending on the gov't.
It all began with small changes, no one put two and two together and now, we are so far down the hole we cant climb back out. This entire time we have been living off a LOC that is about too dry up, then what do you do? You have spent your whole life depending on people who depend on you to give them a job....that you cant take away. We cannot fire these people, we can only hope that the damage they do can be corrected by the next official.
We elect these people based off lip service, and it is unfortunate that the majority are now voting for someone who is giving the lip service very well, and also delivering on it.
We are Fucked....though panic has not started in yet and it will only be half of the country.
Obama keeps going for 50% of the vote on his initiatives...since when is 50% good enough? You don’t go to school and think, "well I got a 50....at least I got half of the questions right".
No, you are supposed to go and STRIVE to be a better human that one day can contribute...not settle.
He is dividing our country more and more as he continues to use the "50%" mark as a success...

He knowingly hung his political future on this, so I think he DOES make a difference...unless he wants to commit political suicide with the conservatives.Originally posted by mikec View PostOne man, Rubio, will not make a hill of beans difference. I hate casting judgement on a large amount of people, as there are good and bad folks no matter where they come from. But an argument can be made that if they were "good, honest people", they wouldn't have made illegal entry into another country.Originally posted by jw33 View Postif reform makes it easier to let good honest people into the country who want to better their life and their family, I'll keep an open mind.
Thank God we don't treat illegals from Mexico the way Mexico treats illegals from Guatemala....
Yea, Kinda curious what the details are on this.Originally posted by Vertnut View PostI'm not too thrilled, but with Rubio involved, I'm interested to see the final proposal/bill. We need to get those folks on the tax roles and become tax-payers like the rest of us instead of just draining our resources.
If its anything like the Reagan era Amnesty Ver. 1.0, I'm sure it will include increased border enforcement... which will in turn never materialize....

Not any one thing, but hell, I take cash, too. As "citizens", at least they have some sort of documentation that legitimate employers can file with. In the construction industry (from my experience), if taxes are held out of a check, most of them wouldn't want to work here.Originally posted by mstng86 View PostTheory sounds good, but what makes anyone think these people are going to start taking a paycheck instead of cash?

They are going to continue filing the maximum number of exemptions possible as they are now.Originally posted by mstng86 View PostTheory sounds good, but what makes anyone think these people are going to start taking a paycheck instead of cash?
The only thing that will change is the number of democratic voters, as they are already on the welfare rolls.

Yeah, each one with three or four kids getting Earned Income Credit refund checks, along with them receiving food stamps, Medicaid, Section 8 housing, on and on. For some reason I don't see as actually adding money into the tax pool.Originally posted by Vertnut View PostI'm not too thrilled, but with Rubio involved, I'm interested to see the final proposal/bill. Anything with McCain and Graham involved in a leadership role scares me. That being said the system used today is broken. With the laws and entitlements we have in place I don't think a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants is great idea. However, if reform makes it easier to let good honest people into the country who want to better their life and their family, I'll keep an open mind.
