i dont think he had enough space to list all of the congress members in the Title line. also why not sum it up to the commander in chief?
In the title, no. In his multi paragraph letter he had some room though. But yes, you can sum it up to the CIC since he is the top dog. Still, I feel his gripes are misdirected and misinformed.
Most of those "civilian" deaths were probably hostile, Rodney.
Does anyone give a shit about opposition death? Not in this country. When people die that look different it places distance and allows us to say "awww....that sucks" without having to involve real human feelings.
I can promise you that our military was walking on egg shells around civilians and when civilians were involved. Granted, there will be some bad apples but in general the orders were pretty clear from the foot soldier to the helo pilots and how/what they engaged.
Anyway, it's a good letter with some good known facts and some opinions masked in hatred. At the end of the day, that Soldier will still have my respect. Why? It SOUNDS like he still followed orders and did his job.
Military personnel do not pick the wars or locations where they are sent. You do what your CiC and ultimately your country wants you to do. That's that. There are time things could be done better and so on - but at the end of the day you STFU and do what you're told.
Personally, although I do not agree with some of the things that is in his letter - it's well within his rights to write it.

Nope. The stuff I handled was on bases near the Syrian border with easy acces via highways into Syria within an hour of driving a convoy. Iraq got it from us and Syria got it from Iraq.
Syria is about to be outted about their chemical weaponry. If you cross reference what I collected in 2004 and 2005 with their arsenal, you'll be surprised. I said that what we bagged up was only a fraction of what was once there. I also said I believed it all went straight to Syria on deals to allow Iraqi military higher ups to flee to the country.
Ask those poor Syrians getting gassed if Iraq wasn't a threat.

Also, by most estimates, 500,000 civilians died during the Viet Nam War, which was orchestrated and escalated by democrats. "Tricky Dick" finally got us out.
this is not meant to be a left/right debate, lets stay on topic
War is hell, civilians pay the price of the poor decisions of their own leaders. Look at Japan, in 30 seconds we killed scores more than the 10 years in Iraq.
