When doctors tell me that a fetus that can kick, turn, react to light, has a heartbeat, and so forth isn't alive, then I'll agree with you. If I shoot a pregnant woman and kill her and her fetus I get charged with two counts not one. Can't have the cake and eat it too.

Feel free to disagree with his opinion, personally I do, but it is not entirely unreasonable to say life begins when a fetus is able to live outside of the womb.
The bottom line is we have to define when life begins. If you ask me I would say at the first heartbeat. Legislate from there. I would encourage personal responsibility that goes farther, including abortion not ever being an option, but that is just me. I won't let the government define my moral standard, be it more or less strict on any given subject (although I will obey the law).
