  • How Washington Could Push Gas Prices Higher

No politician would run for office by calling for higher gasoline prices. Yet policymakers in Washington may be on the verge of causing some pain at the pump for consumers. Most Americans don’t realize that, when they gas up their … Continue reading

I think we've discussed this on here multiple times. The whole concept of ethanol is absurd, but the way the mandate is written is going to end up effing up a bunch of cars because the ethanol content on a % basis is going to be too high. Read the whole article. Here's my favorite part though:

    Less bang for the buck

Ethanol also provides less bang for the buck, since it has a lower energy content than gasoline and therefore generates lower fuel economy. Ethanol usually costs less than gasoline, but AAA estimates that, when adjusted for MPG, ethanol actually costs 15 to 20 cents more per gallon in total fueling costs. So more ethanol in gasoline would lower gas mileage slightly, pushing overall fueling costs up a bit.

It's a much more FUBAR than most people will ever know or understand. Refiners are being forced as we speak, to buy ethanol "credits" which can't even be used for many years. It's all EPA bullshit, and of course, the consumer pays in the end.

      "Could?"

      You mean "Is."
When the government pays, the government controls.

Yep, and the over reliance on corn based products in this country won't help. It's in errrrrrryting!

Forbes had an article last year, that covered a lot of the reasons for food cost increases. In a span of one month in 2012, vegetable prices rose 50%. FIFTY PERCENT.

Govt is subsidizing farmers not to plant, to conserve water. The ethanol horse shit. Growing population in India and China, etc. We are fucked. Some people are saying that globally, food costs will rise up to 40% over the next decade. It's going to be a sad day when middle class people can't afford to feed their families.

Yeah. I didn't want to get into all that because we've covered it all on this board so many times. You should never put in your gas tank what goes in your belly. The impact that corn has on food costs' is almost unfathomable, from what we actually eat on to feed for livestock. Not to mention the shortages of other crops due to the sheer number of farmers lured (sometimes falsely) into growing corn instead.

Yet more junk science. And yet more of the government playing "Let's help out a few people and fuck over everyone else".

Until it's too late. Look at what $100 will buy you for groceries now vs 2000. Take that to 2020 and our country will have a much angrier and violent existence.
