In other news, California is still bankrupt but handing millions to illegals

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A projected $650 million in welfare benefits will be distributed to illegal alien parents in 2013, county officials said Monday.

Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich announced the latest figures from the Department of Public Social Services, which showed more than $376 million in CalWORKs benefits and food stamps combined have been distributed through July to illegal alien parents for their native-born children.

Approximately $54 million in welfare payments are issued each month, consisting of nearly $20 million in CalWORKs and $34 million in food stamp issuances, according to the data.

An estimated 100,000 children of 60,000 undocumented parents receive aid in Los Angeles County, according to Antonovich, who said this year’s projections — up about $1 million from the nearly $53 million in total benefits issued in July 2012 — underscore the economic impact of the nation’s immigration debate.

“When you add the $550 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for healthcare, the total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers exceeds $1.6 billion dollars a year,” Antonovich said in a statement. “These costs do not even include the hundreds of millions of dollars spent annually for education.”

No, it would not, but I see what you're getting at.

If you cannot adequately get your position across without bringing other folks' family into it then you need to step back and rethink your approach.

    Oh the irony.

I absolutely agree with you, Ceyko, that he has definitely earned his pension. My point is more that the military is a socialist institution in the same way that public roads and the police are. That is in no way a slight on anyone that has ever served, merely an observation of the mechanism by which the military operates. The, "Socialist," rib was exactly that, a rib. Socialism is not when people get something for nothing. That is entitlement.

I don't know, maybe my idea/interpretation of socialist is wrong. Or I am biased towards disabled vets - which I won't change on.

To me, he is getting a benefit from a job he did and a contract he signed. Us using our health insurance would be socialist if what he is getting is socialist.

Just getting something for doing absolutely NOTHING could fall as socialist in my opinion. Disabled vets did something, lost something (health, mind...etc) and as part of the benefits they receive a check.

I mean, I have long term disability insurance. If I have to use it, am I socialist? No different. Except when you're military the government is the "company" that provides the benefits.
