For starters, because taxpayers end up picking up the tab. If you're part time, you'll be lucky to hit 12k/year. Full timers outside of management MIGHT make 30, and you'd be hard pressed to find more than a dozen or so of those in each store.

Of course you weren't on "welfare", you were getting money from the government in other ways.

I don't give two shits what WalMart does or pays its employees. I don't shop their very often because their prices have gone way up over the last few years. Its a perception they have the lowest prices much like everyone thinks Southwest has the lowest fares. Its not always what it seems to be...

While that may be true... don't work there, find another job. And don't tell me that there aren't other places to work (at least in a larger city) cause it's not like that's a special skill and you can't work at Target or Home Depot, or anywhere else.

While I don't necessarily think it's a good thing for them to handle internal business the way they do, it doesn't really bother me. As stated, they are for profit. They have some of the goods I need at substantially lower prices and when I need those goods I've got no problem buying them there.

First answer - Because most of them begin the making money also, but are squeezed as time goes by to make less and less, or lose walmart, and their company is gone. Second, those people are the same as Walmart. Electronics are the best example.

Lowes, Home Depot, Target, all the big box stores do it. We'll buy twenty rail cars full of your product and here's what we'll pay. The supplier lowers the spec to be able to sell at th cheaper price. Joe Blow doesn't know the Husqvarna chain saw from Lowes isnt the same quality as the one from the local saw shop.
