Remember its an urban enviroment where the weapons are ak47 with hardly any armor that can move up the streets. Noone wants to go thru towns that rebels control.

Obama shoulda offered some support or equipment.

Anyways I saw an article that russia already has the black box.

Damn...looks like everybody would be alive for that ride down.
That is not MH17. It was another military transport aircraft downed earlier in the conflict.

Look at the date stamp here.

Not a bad theory, but they could also sabotage it, and it might be politically advantageous to let Russia attempt a cover up and then expose it than it would be to confirm what we pretty much already know.

Is it possible to pass out on the way down?! I'm not trying to be a smart ass. I would hope that they all would have passed out though.... And as already stated by shaggin wagon I bet they were all unbelted and doing whatever at the time. Next thing you know your dog piled in the back of the plane on your way down... damn. Rip.

Edit: True. The shockwave and blast should have been enough to wipe out a portion of the passengers...

Keep in mind that a 450+ pound warhead detonated next to the fuselage. The shockwave and shrapnel would have taken a lot of passengers out, the instant loss of cabin pressure would have wreaked havoc on people as well. Hopefully most if not all of them were out cold when it went down.

I cant image the ride down to your certain death. I imagine anyone who wasnt belted in at the time was sucked and stuck to the back of the cabin.

There are reports coming through the the Pro-Russian separatists are allowing friends and family to loot the crash site for suitcases and valuables, but not allowing investigators in. Got to love it.

Damn, I was really thinking there wouldn't be any video of the plane going down. Looks like it hit the right wing. It doesn't look to be rolling at all like you would expect, the pilots must have been fighting it. I'm surprised honestly, I thought it would have augered in.

    This is so fucked.

The Malaysian plane that was shot down over the Ukraine yesterday by a group that has yet to take responsibility contained over 100 of the world's leading AIDS researchers en route to a conference in Melbourne, Australia. Someone may literally have shot the cure for AIDS out of the sky. Great fucking job, humanity.

According to the Telegraph, delegates already gathered in Melbourne for pre-conference meetings were informed of the deaths of 108 of their colleagues after the plane was downed by a surface-to-air missile yesterday. Among the dead are World Health Organization advisor Glenn Thomas, as well as research giant and lauded humanitarian Dr. Joep Lange and his wife, Jacqueline van Tongeren, who has been researching AIDS for three decades. Dr. Lange has written more than 350 papers and spent his career fighting for access to low-cost AIDS treatment in Africa.

Of course, the tragedy of MH17 doesn't end there. This morning, ABCNews ran the heartbreaking story of Kaylene Mann, an Australian woman who lost her brother in the MH370 disappearance earlier this year. Yesterday, Mann found out that her stepdaughter Maree Rizk, returning from vacation with her husband, was aboard the latest Malaysian flight to face a tragic fate.

Overall, 189 Dutch, 44 Malaysians, 27 Australians, 12 Indonesians, 9 Brits, 4 Germans, 4 Belgians, 3 Filipinos, 1 Canadian, and 1 Kiwi lost their lives in the plane crash.

UPDATE: According to new reports from Australia, the number of AIDS researchers and workers aboard the flight was likely much smaller than 100. Here's the Wall Street Journal with more:

Some news reports estimated that the number of people on board the flight who were en route to the 2014 International Aids Conference in Melbourne, which is scheduled to begin this weekend, was as high as 100 or one third of the 298 people on board. But as of midnight Australia time on Friday, conference organizers said they had only been able to confirm seven names.

"We have been working hard to try and confirm how many people were on the flight. We've been speaking to a number of different authorities, and we think the actual number is much smaller," said Chris Beyrer, who will take over the presidency of the International AIDS Society at the end of the global conference next week.

Obviously, none of this minimizes the immense sense of tragedy and loss the families of victims and the international AIDS community must feel.

UPDATE 2: President Obama has confirmed that one American died in the crash.

Since 2007, Jezebel has been the Internet's most treasured source for everything celebrities, sex, and politics...with teeth.

So to summarize: Obama's response to Russia shooting down a 777 is nothing.
We're sending the FBI and NTSB to investigate...

"...The plane is believed to have been shot down..."

Disgusting. The world knows what happen, but Obama and his media are downplaying it.

What I'm interested to see is if the Dutch do anything as far as sanctions/import restrictions. They were by far the largest percentage of victims in this crash, and they are one of Russia's top importers.

the US cutting imports is a fucking joke (we're like 0.75% of their exports) but I believe the Dutch are 13% or so.
