BTW, my understanding is that the US had already ordered US airlines to avoid the entire area. One wonders why Malaysia hadn't done the same thing for their airline. More and more it looks like Malaysia is incompetent..

Geez. Fucking terrible. After the Cold War ended I didn't think we'd be seeing stories like this anymore. Being in a plane crash is probably one of my biggest fears. I do not like flying very much. Those poor people.

It will be interesting to see... None of the reports are saying that the plane had issued a distress call etc. as if it were a mechanical issue. Assuming that is true (who knows with Malaysia Airlines) something catastrophic happened in flight.

Don't commercial flights always take the same path? Not like they wing it on each flight with GPS.

It's not uncommon in times of war for military jets to take the same paths to disguise their intentions. Israel uses these tactics.
