There is nothing wrong with skilled trades. We already live in a time where smart skilled trade workers can make more than someone with a degree, depending on the trade/degree. If my son won't enlist in order to get a free education, I'd have no problem with him learning a trade. I'd prefer it not be at Devry or Lincoln Tech, but beggars can't be choosers I suppose.

I don't know why this is not brought up more in reference to free college education. Sure, you have to make sacrifices, but what comes along in life, that is worthwhile, and doesn't require sacrifices?

A little back of the envelope math and a DCF model can get you there pretty quickly. I do agree with your sentiment about trades making more sense for some people.

True story, the first day of Finance in business school the professor had us calculate the PV of our MBA decision.
