  • Trump v Sanders debate

It is looking more and more likely that Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders are going to go toe to toe in a debate without Hillary. I'm no fan of Donald Trump, but frankly this is genius. It continues to show that our political process is nothing more than reality TV and Trump knows that game better than anyone.

All this does is make Clinton look bad and it make Bernie look great. If Bernie wins the debate, Trump still comes out ahead. Bernie gets to show the world that he isn't afraid of Trump and he can say that Clinton is afraid of both him and Trump. Anything that continues the discord leading up to the convention only helps Trump.

One could argue that Trump should throw the debate and make Bernie look as good as possible.

Hillary Clinton may have declined an invitation to debate Bernie Sanders, but the senator may be getting a different sparring partner: Donald Trump.

Trump will make Bernie look like the crackpot old fool that he is. Bernie gets the compassionate / emotional vote but anyone with a brain will see that he's a snake oil salesman and his ideas simply do not work. All Trump has to do is ask where Venezuela got it wrong and that socialist dream will fall apart.

The big loser here is Hillary. She can't improve her standing by either participating - and letting the bloodbath commence, or not participating - and looking like she's terrified. Which she is. I hate everything that old bag represents and the way her scandals are boiling her alive is so satisfying.

What would really make it interesting is if Gary Johnson asks to participate. That would be a genius chess move. He would get to show the country that he's the smartest and most reasonable person on the stage. At this point the presidential race is already a bad reality TV show. May as well add a plot twist for good measure.

I agree, but it's not really the point here.

You're not really making any sense here. Why would Trump even bother with a debate if he is going to just wipe the floor with Sanders. Walking over Bernie just helps Hillary by sealing the deal on her nomination. Letting Sanders looks good gives him a bit of a heartbeat going into the California primary. It also would put Hillary on the defensive. The more time she spends defending herself from Sanders, the less time she has to go after Trump.

When it comes to Johnson (who I'm most likely to vote for). It does Trump no favors by letting him on stage. Johnson can ask till he is blue in the face. He still doesn't get any publicity nor does anyone take the Libertarians seriously. The BEST we can hope for is that we get him enough votes that the Libertarians will get federal matching funds in the 2020 election.

I disagree. Trump's going for the middle of the road voters, and being on TV debating anyone is good for trump, so to speak. He wont get the far left nor the far right, and he knows it. His only chance for winning is to pull every middle road'er that he can. He's biggest issue is himself, and what worked for him up to this point. He cant just spout off without thinking anymore, he's going to have to be calculated. He really needs any chance he can get in front of everyone and prove he is presidential material.

Yesterday, I saw a car with a Bernie sticker, driving slowly in the left lane. As I passed, I crowded his lane and flipped him the bird. It made my day.

I'm sorry, you might have the idea that I'm a Trump supporter, which is not the case.

First, Sanders is not going to be the D nominee. If you think otherwise, then you are naïve about how underhanded and corrupt the Democrat party machine is. Bernie's a nice guy, kinda dopey, gets the kids all riled up, but he's not THEIR guy at all. Even if Hillary is somehow indicted by the DOJ, she will still be the D nominee.

Second, I like Johnson as well, but he will not be POTUS come January. I am just saying it would be interesting to see someone that is smart, reasonable, and has good ideas actually participate in a debate. Both parties are at a low point and I think the timing is right for a good, solid third party showing. It could lead to big things later.

Third, I'm saying Johnson should publicly request to participate. He probably wouldn't get to, but it would put pressure on Trump and Sanders to put up or shut up about this being the all-inclusive debate they are acting like it is, even though we all really know the idea is to triangulate against Hillary.

I don't know why you think Trump would soft-play Sanders in a debate. That has never been his style. His supporters are itching to watch him shred an opponent, Gladiator-style.
