They did, but Mama Merkel Is still running again for Chancellor and her party and coalition still have immense control of government. Her re-election or ouster will determine which way the German people want their country to go.

My granddad was on the ground in WW2 as a liberator of the Nazi death camps. He said the German people did not really know what the Nazi officials were doing in the camps. It was not like the regular German people knew about it like you'd think. My Granddad said many of the Jews came out of the death camps there at the end, and just went off to die---they were past the point of being saved. The Germans in the surrounding town were mortified and had no idea. My granddad would be 93 this year, but he died at 77. I can't speak on this latest weirdness though: other than to offer it is Satanic.

I get where you are coming from, and I agree that people knew the camps were there, and they knew the Jews were under attack.
What I am saying is most common people did not know about what was actually happening within...the extent of the evil practiced within with the gas Chambers, starvation, and other horrific practices...to see the Jews coming out and wandering off to die--what they actually looked like----most Germans had no idea. The scene was shocking and the truth was grotesque. I can never understand how today's Nazi's can deny the Holocaust existed. It's unbelievably weird. There are still living survivors!
