pop them off the hinges and cut them down...Originally posted by kingjason View PostNope zero gap or maybe a 1/4. So all the doors need this? We justleave them open. LOL
you have to let the air recirculate back to the return air grill in order for it to keep getting the same air cooler thru each pass. other wise you are just blowing cold air in a room and not allowing the hot air to escape with the door closed. so what happens is the thermostat triggers to shut off because it is getting colder than your room.first class white trash

Sorta. Actually before we noticed this little gem I would shut the door in the mornings and my wife would BBQ in the winter or get real cold in the summer becuase the hot or cold air wasnt getting to where the thermostat is. The thermostat is in the hall on the other side of the house and in the summer it just runs all the time but the bedroom is great.Whos your Daddy?

as others said, it will definitely help, but you likely won't get your money back. i'd say to try to sell it with the current unit, if it's working fine...offer some money at closing for a new unit, if the buyers bring it up. it really just depends on the competition, if the unit looks really bad, etc.Originally posted by Lason View PostOne more question for Brad, we are planning on selling the house in the next year and as it is, the A/C works fine but its just undersized. Would it help with the sale to replace it or is it money I wont ever see back?

Hey Brad, sorry for the derail, but I had Armando and his guys come out and trouble shoot my 13-yr old unit a month ago. They found a small leak on the evaporator coil. He went ahead and just charged it for me for now, but was also throwing me some costs on replacement for just the inside unit as well as a complete inside/outside job. I noticed that you had Armando install a unit you bought from someone else. I'm assuming it was Michael? Would you consider it to be a better deal to buy the unit from someone other than Armando? Feel free to shoot me a PM.

michael is a good friend of several years, and he buys probably 8 million a year in carrier product...i wanted carrier, so he got it for me. just from how much of it he purchases, i'd say that he can most likely get a better deal on the units. give him a call and tell him that i sent you, and he'll shoot you some great pricing. armando deals with bryant (made by carrier), and, from what i understand, they're the same thing with a different label. i just wanted a carrier "infinity" system...i had armando do all of the installation, though. michael might also be able to get you a better deal on the misc. material, if you decide to replace your ducts, etc.Originally posted by Doug Hatton View PostHey Brad, sorry for the derail, but I had Armando and his guys come out and trouble shoot my 13-yr old unit a month ago. Armando did a Bryant 5 ton and 2.5 ton at my house and it is all still working flawlessly four years later.Originally posted by racrguyWhat's your beef with NPR, because their listeners are typically more informed than others?Originally posted by racrguyVoting is a constitutional right, overthrowing the government isn't.

i don't know if the tax credit is still active, but you could probably easily justify it with a good seer increase and the credit...it will pay for itself in no time. not to mention not having to re-fill it with freon constantly...Originally posted by Doug Hatton View PostMy existing system is a Bryant. I'm not really looking to upgrade to anything better than just a newer, slightly more efficient unit that doesn't have a leak in the evaporator coil! LOL!
