  • Wood shelving boards need bigger size than what HD has

I am wanting to build a big shelf in an open area to the left of my tv/fireplace. Simple design, a rectangle shelf that sits on the tile, with square openings. I wanted the openings to be big enough to fit my electronics, and also deep enough so my stuff doesn't have to poke out.

I need some boards that are 8ft tall, and hoping for 2ft in width. HD has boards that are only 1ft in width. Anyone know of other places to look?

Why not just clamp and glue two boards together? I've never seen boards that are 2' wide... unless you use sheeted lumber and rip to whatever width you want.

Just go buy a 4ft x 8ft oak board from lowes and have them cut it in half.. They do that for free and you will have 2 pieces of nice oak wood to use..

if you ask them they can normally have whatever size you need within a day or two.
