  • Critique my Parts List

The new house has a dedicated media room and I've been studying up, trying to put together a reasonable budget I could live with. Here's what I've come up with so far, but am open to your feedback.

-Denon AVR-S900W - key features: Bluetooth, Wifi, decent power, price. $500

    [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR-S900W-7-2-Channel-Receiver-Bluetooth/dp/B00EXTVPOE/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1412607446&sr =1-1&keywords=denon+avr-s900w[/ame]

    -Epson 8350/8345 - 1080p projector - key features - lens shift, 2:1 focus, price. $600-900. (either a used 8350, or a new 8345)

    [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Epson-PowerLite-Home-Cinema-Projector/dp/B00D68Y9B4/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1412607585&sr =1-1&keywords=epson+8345[/ame]

    -Polk Audio RC85i - Front L/R - Key Features - In-wall, separates, price $160/pr.

    [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-RC85i-2-Way-Speakers/dp/B00006I5O6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1412607663&sr =1-1&keywords=polk+audio+rc85i[/ame]

-Polk Audio 255C-RT In wall center channel. $250

    [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-255C-RT--ceiling-channel/dp/B004L9DGCK/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1412607740&sr =1-8&keywords=polk+audio+center+channel+speaker[/ame]

-Polk Audio RC80i - Ceiling Mounted for middle surround and Rear channels - $140/pr x 2

    [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-RC80i--Ceiling-Speakers/dp/B00006BMQT/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1412607862&sr =1-1&keywords=polk+audio+ceiling+speakers[/ame]

    -DirecTV HD Receiver
    -110" fixed screen - Open to suggestions - $300?
    -Subwoofer - Open to suggestions - ~$350?
-Samsung Smart Bluray Player (netflix, etc.) $100
    -Media Room Seating (~$1500)

I think I can do all of it for around $4500. Maybe even $4k if I can find a good deal on seating. Let me know what you think.

The room is a 16' x 16' if that matters.

      House-poor list of shit!

I really have no clue, I've been out of AV for awhile.

I've read on here a bit and it seems the Denon receivers and Epson projectors are a pretty good bang for the buck components. Same could be said of the Polk Audio speakers. I'm not looking to build an audiophile's dream room, but get a decent bang for the buck return. Because this is an entirely new room, pretty much everything in it will be a new purchase. The room is already wired for the projector location as well as the surround wiring and cable pass-throughs.

Everything looks fine to me, except for the Bluray player. You'll get more features and better file (container) support from something like a Sony BDP-S5100/S5200. All around the $100 price point.

For a sub in the $350 price range, I would look at something from Dr. HSU or a BIC PL-200 http://hsuresearch.com/products/stf-2.html Just be aware that you're not going to get a lot of output and extension from a $300 sub. However, you'll probably be OK with your room being around 2000-2,500 cubic feet.

Elite screens has pretty good products in that price range.

Check out the Polk PSW505 for a sub. Impressive output and cheap. Amazon has it for $250, and you can probably find it even cheaper than that.

I also agree on the Sony. I have a Samsung and Panasonic that have issues.

I've got an attic access door that eats up my screen wall. I should have about 12' of useable wall, and probably 3 of that will be my left and right in wall speakers. I think a 110" will be the biggest I can fit in that space. Should still be decent in that space.

Thanks. That's the kind of feedback I was wanting. Negligable price difference.

I think you'll be happy with it. I have the same projector (for the past 3.5 years - love it) and a 106" screen.

I've also got a Denon head unit and JAMO 7 channel with an Episode 300w sub. So essentially the speakers are a difference, but make a big difference.

If you've never had a media room setup before, you will be happy with the list of stuff you get. I do warn you - do NOT start digging around avsforum.com - you'll start to question your purchases and your budget will then need to at least double...

Yeah, I'm sure it's easy to spend a LOT on a media room. I'm the kinda person that if I can get 80% of the performance at 20% of the cost, then that's the route for me! Lol!

Just bought a catnapper couch and recliner for my media room, hoping to catch a sweet deal on a 70+ inch 4k tv after thanksgiving or christmas. Still trying to decide how crazy to get with the audio. I want a simple but good sounding set up.

Yours looks like it's going to be pretty damn nice!

                            Just one critique though....

Do not get in wall front speakers. Side and rears are fine, but 80% of your sound comes from the front. I had them in my last media room, which were ok.... I now have towers in front and it makes a HUGE difference.

^That's a consideration. The only part that sucks for me is that the prewiring was done and the outlets are up high. I guess I could extend them down to floor level. I may investigate what reasonably priced options there are for the fronts. Thx.
