Thanks - is was originally planned a little bigger, but the original plans also had just the building itself eating up my entire budget. My budget was pretty hard-pressed b/c I really didn't want to have to finance any of it on a note....so I cut the size down so that I could afford the other stuff I knew that I wanted/needed. AC/Heat, extra concrete, insulation, insulated doors, electrical & lights, floor coating, compressor & air system, lift, etc, etc...it just kept adding up, so I had to compromise somewhere. I'm not quite done yet either...I'm planning to go back with a couple awnings and still some more concrete for trailer parking and a couple more walkways.

Will do. I've been meaning to, just haven't gotten around to it yet...I'll get some more pictures now that the weather is getting better, and try to post up a new thread sometime soon. In the meantime hit me up if you have any specific questions, I learned a lot through this process and I'm happy to share my experiences with you.

Friend had a shop over there. He passed away 2 years back, he was a great guy. I'd buy that sign from you if you wanna sell it.
I started going out there with my brother before I even had my license, and after I got older I raced there myself for years. Played the cat & mouse game with the cops out there almost every weekend. A friend of mine gave me that sign as a shop warming gift, so I really don't want to let it go - actually now wanting some more to go with it - Emerald, Manana, Luna, Newberry would all be some good ones to have.

I think if you are limited to a smaller lot that it would probably make sense to go with a tandem, but of course you are cutting into your living space going that route too. I guess it comes down to what is more sacrificial to you?...lot space so that you can go 3 (or more) wide, or cut into the house/living space to save covering more land.

What I can tell you from my experience is that it will never be enough space (when you are a car guy). When we were running the plans on our house, the garage was one of the biggest sticking points...I went back and resized it 3 times. Ended up with a 45x28....the width made it nice, but what I really learned was the depth is quite useful as well. Having enough room all along the front for my toolbox, compressor, welder, parts washer, shelves, etc, etc. and still having plenty of room to pull an engine with the door down, makes it really useful space. I can't tell you how much I've used the open space in front of my cars...it's open work space when I'm building an engine, doing any bench type work, etc. I don't have to move cars out to do it, and that's a good thing b/c they don't always all run and move under their own power around here.

An old pic, but give you an idea of the extra depth space....

Of course, my dumbass was so worried about floor space that I never even thought about ceiling height until construction was well underway...compound that with this becoming a side business and me always having a lot more cars around now-a-days...this was my solution last year (8 years later)....

34'x26' three car garage plus a nice little kickout for the fridge and door to the back porch. I just wished it was a few feet deeper and higher ceilings.
