Laminate flooring

Now that the sod is complete, i will be installing laminate flooring probably this weekend or next. We got the flooring from HD but waited on the underlayment because I saw this post on craigslist. Is this a good deal?

This is not our forever home and will most likely be moving within the next 3 to 5 years, so it does not need to be top of the line. Its about 1200 sq ft of flooring.

Thickness is what matters guy never said how thick

The package says 2MM EVA foam with 8 Mil Vapor Barrier. Is that the thickness of it all? If it is, will this be sufficient?

What kind of laminate did you get? I just installed 12mm in the kitchen about 275soft and it came out to about $550. The flooring had mat on it already. Got it from lumber liquidators.

7mm sounds relatively thin. I've always heard do no less than 10mm or it will feel "cheap".

I installed this exact product in my house. I will have to look up the underlayment I used. It is available at HD I think. It was Red. I found the exact same product for cheaper online with slightly different dimensions.

The floor has held up well and we have two small very active dogs. It WILL chip so be careful with rocks, pebbles, etc. We laid ours too early and ended up with a few chipped spots from our other remodel activities.
The one thing I will say is with this thinner product, you MUST float/grind the floor level, it will make all of the difference between a cheap feel and higher quality feel. If it isn't your "forever" home, I wouldn't hesitate to use it again.

I will find the details on my underlayment and let you know. I can definitely feel a difference in the temperature of the floor from our "wood" floor vs. Our tile. It never got near as cold as the tile this winter.

I did a ton of reading and research and this product was the best compromise between price and quality, IMHO. Definitely search online. That product i posted is made specifically for home depot (color and dimension, the product is identical in every other way to what you will find elsewhere). What you will find elsewhere will be gree and have slightly different dimensions. I want to say i bought mine at walmart.com and purchased enough to do the job and got free shipping.

I went ahead and met with the guy and checked out the 3 in 1 and it looks and felt like the same stuff at HD and bought 6 from him at 55$ for 1 200 sqft rolls.
I started Saturday in the kitchen and yesterday continued through to the living room. It does not feel cheap and it also has a good normal sound to it and very impressed with the floor and the underlayment.

I know nothing about flooring, so this is going to be a dumb question.

when selecting your flooring, do most people take into account the gap between the concrete and the floor trim? I really don't want to pull the trim to put floors in at my house.

if you have a lot of time and money you can pull the trim put your floor down and then put new trim down... but if you are like me and most people who are doing it themselves, buy quarter round and you nail it to the trim to cover your gap.
