Typical "first bike" question...

This course really helped my step brother get more confidence on his bike. I found him a 1982 Yamaha 650 cruiser for $300 and got it running for the cost of a can of seafoam. He is as coordinated as a bowl of noodles, but after this class can now feel safe on this bike.


I recently saw a bike that I've been wanting to get, but probably won't. Here you go.

Do NOT Waste your money on some tiny bike because within a week you will outgrow it and have a hard time selling it.
Get yourself a used 600 ( No katanas) and be done with it, ride it til the wheels fall off then sell it.
Dont let anyone tell you that a big bike wrecks easier or some crap, because trust me, you can wreck a 600 just as easy as a 1k!

Theres lots of used bikes on Craigslist for under 4k and you would still have a pretty popular bike. F4i, F4, 600RR, GSXR etc etc

My first bike was an 05 Gsxr 600, Never been on a bike before that, I didnt ride dirtbikes or anything as a kid. It was really my first bike. And I did just fine on it and in fact still have it...parts of it anyways lol

If you want a bike though I would wait another month or two for the weather to cool down. The prices should drop pretty good and you will have more of a selection during that time.

I never rode a 250 but I would agree with the 600. I never really road dirtbikes or anything and like StunterBob, my first bike was an '05 R6.

It is quite intimidating at first because when you are new you can very easily kill yourself but I am sure that applies with any bike. The throttle and braking took a few days to get used to but just take it slow. It will feel like you are on a rocketship at first and the slightest throttle will make you feel like you can go a gazilion miles an hour.

I bought a bike before I knew how to ride it. I actually had the guy ride it home for me. I purchased it about 2 weeks or so before taking my MSC and loved it. I would get on it late in the evening or at night when there was no traffic and putted around my block until I got comfortable. After 2-3 days and 30 minutes of riding around the block I ventured out on the streets then highways. Once you ride on the highway for a good hour or so you will be 100% comfortable at that point. After about 8 hours of riding you will be wanting to push the limits...

I rode dirt my entire life and my first bike was an 01 900 ninja that was just to fast for me but I got it for a steal at $1500 off craigslist. A drunk pulled out in front of me in the stockyards and that was the end of that bike. No it doesn't take some insanely fast bike to keep interest. You don't want something that will get you run over like something to slow/ quiet with all the people out there on the road that don't pay attention you want any bit of advantage you can get LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES

I should mention that my idea of fun is probably going to be the low speed ability to throw the bike around. I spent years playing on 26 inch mountain bicycles. My favorite has always been high speed wheelies on my 21 speed. Of course by high speed I mean by bicycle standards. I used to love flying through campus at UNT on one wheel standing up and seeing the faces of people on foot 3 feet below me. I was a few years younger then and one bad ditch led me to give up those sorts shenanigans. Most of the time I would just rip the crotch out of my pants from the seat when I threw a bike away. Still I want something that I an test my balance on a little bit. Maybe.

Figure out what kind of bike u want. Sports, cruiser, etc. My first bike which I have only had a few months is a katana. Not the coolest bike but I drive close to 40 miles one way to work and I like a little comfort. Also I have a CDL so trying not to lose my license by having a huge amount of fun on 2 wheels. Plus the bike was a damn steals on craigslist. The class was a big help. I had never ridden before and it shows u the basics.

Nope its a bike. You get everything unlike a car

For 4-5k you can pick up a high end ninja or an R1 if you look and wait. I thought a ninja 650 was actually more fun than my brothers R1. I was too skeered to put more than half throttle in that R1.

The second day he picked up his R1 he smoked a z06 C6. By bus lengths. He's also 15 and has no idea what fear is. lol
